Title: Diff noises
Post by: BenF on September 29, 2003, 07:56:40 AM
Just got my RX on the road yesterday for the first time(legally!).  Struth its quick........

When I nail it from a stand still (after its warmed up of course), I hear an awful vibrating noise as if the diff is vibrating slightly.  Also when changing up the lower gears, there is a thud as the power is taken up.  This noise is not evident at higher speeds/gears.

The suspension has been lowered far too much, and the rear setup bottoms out all the time, and I suspect the springs may even be cut down standards, which is disturbing.  Needless to say cornering at speed is a no no, as there is hardly any play at the back, and the rear end tends to skip out causing me to fill my pants.......!  Could the diff noise have anyting to do with the rear suspension setup ?

Has anybody else had problems with play on their diffs or other problems with short springs on the back ???

Hi Ben,

If you can get the car up in the air check the Power plant frame, this is a large metal channel section that bolts between the Diff and the Gearbox.

These can crack around the bolt holes or the bolts could be just loose

If it\'s not this you then need to look at the rubber Diff support mountings.

Hope this helps.

All the best Clive

Cheers Clive...will do

I take it with all the power this can occur quite frequently !
I hope the problem is that simple.....
