Sorry guys,
But I have read through all the old threads I could find on the number plates and I couldn\'t find a solution to my problem so I thought I would air it ...
My car is a 92\' FD with a Mazdaspeed kit (I believe ) on it.
The only thing to mount the number plate is a metal bar about 8 inches long and a inch high sticking out from the front of the bumper above the air intake...
I have tried to use the standard sticky tape option but the plate has fallen off three times (losing two plates), I wondered if there was an easy/quick fix for number plate fixing without any drilling into the bodywork.. like a bracket or holder that would just bolt on somewhere ?
I know from a previous thread that there is a part you can buy directly from mazda that will fit directly on to the normal/std bumper, but will this fit on mine ??....
And as for the repositioning.... is there any easy (very easy) solution to moving the number plate to either side of the bumper ?
Andy
You are proberly not sticking it on right. (sounds daft)
I work in a Body shop and to fix Number plates on so there is no holes showing we use a Dubble sided tape, its basicly like a strip of thin Foam with Glue on each side.
If you clean the the metal bracket up so it has not old glue or dust etc on and have at least 1" x 4" area that sits nicly on the back of the plate you can cover the Plate with the tape and warm with a Hair dryer then peel the backing off whilst still warm and stick the plate on. If every thing is properly clean it WONT come off and you\'ll have to scrap the Numberplate to get it off.
Can you post a Pic of the Bracket? Just make sure its the proper mounting.
If you mail me i will Post you some of this tape if you like we have loads of it knocking about.

Grizzly,
I will try and get a pic of it up tomorrow....
I think maybe it is because when I have mounted it I have stuck the very top of the plate to the bracket so when the air pushes against it the bottom of the plate bends down.... I guess if the bracket is stuck on the middle of the rear of the plate.
Anyway... I will get a pic of it up and try again with another plate the way you suggest over the weekend
Thks
TBH if there is a bracket that has an area or 8" x 1" it should\'nt matter where you stick the plate. I have worked on cars with the plates stuck on so well on its ripped the Backing off the Number plate getting it off.
We only realy use three strips two Inches long by half an inch wide to hold a plate on.
The other way is to remove the bracket all to gether (aslong as it doesn\'t leave holes in the bumper) and replace it with a stick on plate!!!!!
If your interested in going down this rought I can make one for you????

Let me know and I\'ll sort out a price for you,

I had my brackets made up. Cost about £15 I think for a couple of bits of stainless steel. Then paid this guy I know in Peterborough about a tenner to fix it to the bumper.
I think the solution doesn\'t look too bad, plus still gives plenty of space for the air intake.
Andy, I\'ve sent that tape out to you, just make sure before you stick it onto the Bracket its realy clean, use somthing like Nail Varnish remover to degrease and remove any old glue dry it off well then appy the Tape, it may be a good idea to warm with a Hair dryer as this stuff likes being warm when put on. When its all warm stick the plate on, if its new they usaly dont need cleaning but it may be worth wiping it over (be carfull you don\'t melt the backing)
Push the Plate and Bracket together Firmly all the way Across then let it all cool and it should be stuck.
Just remember its all about how clean you get the Bracket before you stick it all together.
And another Tip is Cut the first Inch of tape off before you start so you have nice fresh Glue.
Thanks Grizzly..... will give it another go.... I have some fresh new plates coming tomorrow so over the weekend it should be spot on...
Jono, thanks for the sticky plate thought, but to be honest I am not a fan of the sticky plate...
Gadj, if it comes off again, which hopefully it shouldn\'t then I will probably mount it in a completely different place and that would mean fresh brackets made up by a local firm like you suggested
dont bother with a front plate, i dont. Rx7s look better without anyway.
If you must though, you could always just throw it on the dashboard.
Wish I thought of that one befor I got pulled!!! plate was in the boot so I couldn\'t reach it!!!!! Got done for having a bike plate on the front with 42mm text, £30 fine and producer!!!!!!! He told me he had seen me 3 months before and has been trying to find me since!!!!!

bob do you not display one at all, as i thought it was a legal requirement here is there some exceptions for jap imports that i dont know about ?
dvla site= A number plate must be displayed at the front and rear of motor vehicles (with some exceptions).
