Title: Slow and Fast speed rad fans
Post by: nikp on February 20, 2006, 10:01:32 PM
I am copying this here, as i have wired up my new fans to the black and green cables, but would like confirmation that i have done this correctly - as i am not keen on taking my FD out without someone confiming that I hav wired up the fans correctly - so copied this here for more visibility.

Ok, i have got a new rad with new cooling fans - however, these are just single speed fans which i need to connect up to the harness. So i need to know which are the slow speed and which are the high speed cables for the fans - actually, i also need to know if the high speed fans switch on, will there still be a current to the slow speed?

So - i have four cables: Blue, Green, Yellow and Black. there going to be two negatives, and then two positives: one for the slow speed, and one for the high speed.

I plan to connect the new fans up to just the slow speed cicuit - will the fans remian on when the high speed circuit kicks in?

cheers for the help.

I would presume not.

As a test conect a ohm meter across the cables to see if you have 2 seperate circuits. I would presume you will.

If so then you will have 2 differant sets of windings in there. this is not 100% tho .

The test of this will be to find out which wire/s are ground and ground them. Supply the 2 remaining leads seperatly. This will tell you which is whcih but if they are single speed then you will only need to connect them to the low speed circuit. Maybe you should concider conecting one to the low speed circuit and the other to the high speed

Well, for anyone who\'s interrested: i sussed it. I realised that I could turn the air con on and the fans circuit would switch on. Turns out it wasn\'t the Green and Black wires at all. I identified that the 12 volts were between the Yellow and Blue wires - so everythings sorted now! :)
