has anyone done this?
I want to do it to to clean the plates on my engine, Do i just chuck em in? use dishwasher powder? what?
Cheers
normally use a de-greaser fist, something like Gunk I\'d assume, or you may end up contaminating your dishwasher and have a oily/fuel desidue on your plates etc
Gasoline is for cleaning parts,Alcohol is for drinking and Methonal is used for racing....... :Talking1 ...answer the question bud ? :burnout
hey that would be a great idea but is it really safe?? would like to know aswell!!
Cheers
Nick
Loads of people put other engine parts in the dishwasher (4 pot blocks etc) but im nto sure about a rotary. Shouldnt think it would matter, as after all - iron is iron, but i was wondering what detergent i should use pretty much.
i just scrubbed mine with degreaser, carb cleaner and then scrapped the carbon from the grooves, didnt really take that long
I got a big washing up tub (big enough to fit a plate in) then i filled it with degreaser (got it from Partco 5lt for £10) then stuck each plate and Housing in it and covered it up (Left for about a day). They clean up realy well.
You will need a good stiff bruch when your Cleaning up the rotors, They are usaly realy caked in Carbon.
I put all sorts of bike and car parts through the dishwasher and they come up a treat...no curious side affects from the dishes that followed on from doing it....yet!
Only thing to remmeber that dishwasher watre contains salt.
I repair dishwashers, and would not advise putting bits of greasy engine in one, the oil would be spread all over the heater element, etc, which would keep coming off and polluting the water the best crockery are washed in, then it would stink for ages, and you would taste the oil in your breakfast bowl, and thats only one reason! health before rotaries!
Gunk is good, Bob
I must admit you guys are taking workshop work to a new level, you must be taking the pee in suggesting that a person puts engine parts in a dishwasher :D ...in all my life....what has happend to washing the engine parts on a parts washer stand, with either parrifin or petrol or a commercial degreaser of some sort.....
You should try cleaning a baking tray with parrifin..............that works. lol
And I got a hard time for using an oven on car parts...

Nah,its the new way of doing things.....cover yourself in those condom gloves, get the laptop out,put in HOW TO dvd and proceed.......if that fails.get the cheque book out and get some \'worker\' to do it for you.........LOL..reminds me to put the dishwasher on the WANTS list for the workshop......... :rollin ...... :rollin
The best kitchen appliance to use to clean your parts is the washing machine.
Fully automatic of course, you should see that baby jump across the floor with a couple of rotors in it,but you do have to use a mangle to wring the parts out after too. :wiggle
If you use fabric softener on the last part of the rinse cycle the parts come out lovely and soft, just like me. :Ladys-man
Then you need an industrial strength clothes horse to dry the parts in front of the fire.
For ironing purposes you must use a steam iron,it really gets the creases out of the end plates. :Thumbs-up
Finally put them in the airing cupboard for a couple of days.Under your hood, and air regularly at Mazda rotary club meets. :3gears-lh
