Post by: pjr on February 20, 2006, 08:05:59 AM
Hi all
I have an 84 12a thats been standing for 6 years, engine not good.A future restoration project. Now ive also got an 87 13b thats had a rebuild at Hurley in coventry,Problem ..is this a practicle idea.Does anyone know what I may come up against ? could do with some sort of idiots guide.I dont consider myself a master mechanic. Other option is to swop the 13b for a good 12a
if anyone has one sitting arround.
hope someone can help
cheers

Thinking of useing the 13b engine in the earlier car as the body is in good nick.
hope that makes more sense.

Its certainly not a bolt in job. The sump and the engine mountings are two problem areas. I\'m going to be doing this soon with my 323. Not sure about the sump yet but i plan to fit a 12a front cover plate to my 13B and use the 12a engine mounting plate. Not sure about the sump. yo might need to use a 12a sump or reverse the 13b one or ???  Then theres the matter of fuel injection if you decide to keep it (I\'m going for a 48 dellorto) and depending on where you mount the engine the gearbox may not line up correctly with the hole in the trans tunnel or the mounting + change in prop length.
