Title: which intercooler?
Post by: evildave on September 27, 2003, 07:45:37 PM
I need to buy a large front mount intercooler but I\'d prefer not to move the Radiator. I\'ll also need a hard pipe kit etc.

Can anyone suggest a make/supplier?

Hmmm...bit tricky to fit a large FMIC - or any FMIC - and retain the rad in the stock position I\'m afraid!

Sounds like an uprated \'stock mount\' unit is what you\'ll want to go for - like the M2 and so fourth jobs. Look at Jason\'s intercooler and you\'ll see the type of thing I mean - like the Trust SM Ross is offering. I think the rad stays where Mazda put it with them?

Otherwise you\'ll be forced to relocate the rad if you\'re after a \'proper\' front mount IC I\'m afraid.

cheers for the pic fish.
Reckon i\'ll need to move the rad after all, i\'ll probably be running 20-25psi so as much surface area as possible is likely to help.

now i\'m confused...................

Above is a photo of my old engine bay, it shows the Trust stock mount with custom duct, the duct makes all the difference. I always think, its not what you do, but how you do it. This intercooler offers great water temps along with exellent intakes. Repeated 40-140 runs highest intake temp was 24 degrees.

I sell fmic, although i feel that a good well ducted smic is a better option. In the uk people love front mounts so thats why I sell them.

Only with a serious and fully dowled engine plus a few exterior mods will you achieve this level of boost O/K

25 PSI shouldn\'t be a problem on ceramic, but are you realy going for ceramic?

Rich is right, you should get professional engine rebuilder when runing 25 PSI on stock engine !

Cheers

I\'m not running a stock engine people, although thanks for your concern.

It\'s street ported, racing tips, 3mm seals etc.
I need to get a proper spec list from the guy who built the car but he\'s assured me 20psi will be fine and he does seem to now his rotors.

I hope its been well dowelled!!

Tips/seals = same; what kind of seals/tips are they?

Tuning will be CRITICAL if u are expecting your motor to last any thing more than the drive home.

Good luck. It\'s too easy to kill a well prepared engine with stock boost levels, let alone the best part of 1.5bar...

Ross, that seems a very good price for the FMIC, does that include piping?

I take it at 25psi super plus and octain booster would be used?

Dave :)
