2 pack is the noughty stuff, its got isosionide in it!! use too much of it and you\'ll go dull in the head!!!!!

Take a look at the new water based paints their using...... Sounds stupid I know, but very easy to use and all you need a a resporator mask rather than an oxygen fed mask & (like you say) condom!!!

I bought a few books, and read up online. Good forum was hotrodders.com. There is also some info on 3m\'s site, but they try to pomote their own products. One of the best souces of info and tips was a guy that worked at my local car paint shop. As yo will be going there quite a lot, try and get friendly with someone there.

i didn\'t use an "Outbreak" style suit, but the twin carbon filter masks are a must. I was buying mine from Machine mart. I also had a box of the latex doctor gloves.

If you want some more info just let me know, I am not a pro by any means, but I managed to strip the whole car down, and get a nice finish. One thing everyone will say, is that it\'s like 80% prep, and 20% painting.

Oh, about the gun, go for the top feed/gravity gun. It makes spraying downwards on places like the roof much easier. And you don\'t have any left at he bottom each time you stop or fill up.

Gun wise I\'ve been told the best to use is a: Low Pressur High Velocity top feed gun, but if you want to save some work, dont get the cheep £30 jobs, the paint doesn\'t atomise as well and the finish is like an orange peel!! The finer the paint the better the finish!!!!

I use my dads bottom feed gun thats probably about 20 years old, I haven\'t found a gun that does a better job yet!!! very very good quality piece of kit, cost £60 back then!!!!

The problem I had with the suction/bottom feed gun, was that i could not spray downwards unless the jar was quite full (I was also worries about drips). I bought a £60 Kestrel one and it did the job really well, but if I ever do it again, I would definitely buy the HVLP gun.

Dont need the condom realy, any mask will do aslong as you have a carbon filter (single or double!!) & yea lots of patience!!!

All you need to do with the water base paints ia add the hardner then chuck it on ( through a spray gun of course!!!!) But be warned, the water base paints dont fill little in#mperfections like the 2 pack paint, any marks will show through, so prep is especialy important with the water base!!!!!

Could you not just apply a thicker coat of the water based paints to hide the imperfections? or do you spray a coat or 2, wet n dry sand it all them another few coats?... soz for all the questions lol

In theory you shouldnt need to rub down after the base colour has been put down!! but it all depends on the enviroment you spray in and the colour your using!!!
All the little dings should be removed in the primer and not the base coat (Colour coat)
Use a high build primer, put a good layer on the car & let it set for an hour or so, then rub 90% of the primer off using 600-800 wet \'n\' dry (this will remove all blemishes and show any dents you have missed!!) dry the car off, wipe it down with a cloth (clean one that has had no wax, oil or spray can stuff near it, or you will get fish eyes in the paint!!!) use a tac rag and go over the whole car again befor the next coat of primer. once the second coat of primer has set and the car is a uniform colour, lightly rub the shell down with 800 wet \'n\' dry (literaly to knock off the high spots, to get a smooth finish!!) the car should now be perfectly flat. again wipe the car down with a cloth & tack rag, your nowe set for the base coat (colour coat). apply the base coat until you get complete uniform coverage (hopefuly with no runs or dust, especialy using a metalic colour!!!!) leave the paint for an hour, until its a mat/satin finish, then apply the laquer, 2,3,4,5 coats (as many as you need, until you get a good sloss finish) allow to dry for 24 hours (or longer if you wish) don\'t be allarmed if the finish has dulled as this is where the work is!!!

Now use 1200 or 1500 wet \'n\' dry with plenty of soap!!! continue rubbing untill the orange peel affect is removed, then buff with a power mop and fine cutting paste. Hay presto mirror finish!!!!

Can do, if it\'s just GRP bumpers then dont worry about it!! Also the water based paint is more flexable than the 2 pack variety so you probably dont need to add any!!
