Title: Steering linkage
Post by: memski on February 15, 2006, 11:37:34 PM
...aka the 10" long intermediate shaft - removed/ undone when removing turbos or the downpipe. Is there an easy way of putting it back together as I\'m having a tough time with mine. Hope I won\'t have to undo the entire rack...

Have got it connected at the steering wheel end but there\'s not enough play to fit the other side on, any advice please from people who have already done this? TIA   :god  :Laugh

you need to take the bolt/s out completely, then it will slide up and down. Then, if I remember correctly you need to kind of pull the bottom piece up to fit the shaft, then put the bolts in.

Thanks for the reply buddy but have done that and mine doesn\'t seem to want to comply  :2Rolleyes  Was thinking that there might be another way if there\'s no slack in the connections but will give it another go. Cheers :cheers

Here we go. I cant remember fully how I did mine, but if I can do it, YOU can !

Ok, that bottom piece I think has a sort of spring in it. Can you pull it up and down ? ( no rude jokes!)Leave that very bottom bolt connected. 2nd from the bottom, take out. You should be able to kind of stretch that bottom piece to connect to the shaft. Take out top bolt, and slide the shaft down. Now put the bolt in that bottom piece to hold it to the shaft.

I think now you can push the shaft back up to get the top bolt in .
I dont think we need to loosen that 2nd one from the top.

Like I said, I cant remember EXACTLY, but its something like that.

Hi Martin, thanks for the reply - it went on soon after your previous post  :Thumbsup!  I had to remove the linkage distal to it (undid the lower bolt) to get it all to fit back in properly though but it\'s back on now. Thanks again.
