Title: coolant question
Post by: Mr J.T on February 14, 2006, 06:49:04 PM
hope someone will be able to spread some light, just purchased my second rex now before i bought it i know the ast cracked and failed, this was replaced (used one) just before i picked it up and after asking around was told his was nothing to worry about.
right down the the nitty gritty, cars got a brand spanking engine only 4k on it curtisy of reworx.
Went to turn it on from cold sunday and after 10secs the buzzer came on for coolant, straight off toped up expansion tank and water pump started fine and ran fine checked it ever couple miles till i was happy. got it home after a good run, let it cool down and turned off.
 it didnt dump and water.
started sunday night monday etc fine with no buzzer etc etc went through a whole tank of petrol just came to it again (today)(cold) buzzer again, same process everythings fine. i dont think the coolant is being recirculated from the expansionas this was full.
thinking its a traped hose:? or ast?
can anyone help?

The AST cap is probably not allowing coolant to be drawn back into the system from the expantion tank. Pop a new 0.9 bar cap on the AST and see if that helps.

Yeah I have heard the 1.3 bar caps can cause probs and to stick with a 0.9

Mazda recalled the FDs to replace the 1.9 bar caps with 0.9 caps. They had lots of problems with the higher pressure caps.

Mazda performed the recall to change the 1.3 bar caps for 0.9 due to fears that the higher pressure would overload the cooling system. Of course the plus side of running a 1.3 bar cap is that it raises the boiling point of the coolant, so there\'s less chance of developing hot spots in the engine due to localised boiling of the coolant (which can be extremely damaging). I run a 1.1 bar cap as a compromise, haven\'t had any problems. Course the ideal solution is to run evans NPG+ and have a atmospheric or low pressure cooling system.

This Question comes up a lot, I\'ve stuck with the 0.9 bar and everything is spot on. :cheers
