Title: Whats the Norm - Water Temp & Intake Temps?
Post by: M@r]{ on February 14, 2006, 04:29:09 PM
Ive just got my car back from having a rebuild at WGT.  Ive also has a Koyo rad fitted along with an Apexi FC and Commander.  The car also has a Trust FMIC along with a HKS Ind Kit.

Now that I can accurately read the temps on the Commander I was wondering what temps people are seeing?

My water temp on a steady (ish) cruise sees 86 degrees, sometimes rising upto 89.  I cant remember intake at the moment

On a steady cruise it should be completely stable at 85/86 ish. When did it raise to 89? In traffic?

At the moment in this cool weather, with a standard rad, i\'m getting temps of 81/82! But in the summer, its a whole different ball game!! :o

With standard rad I get 85 degrees while on the go and no more than 92 in traffic on a hot day  :Thumbs-up

Hi. water temps depend, among other things, on the opening time of your thermostat. Stock thermostat will open at about 83/84° +- few degs.

I use nearly the same setup as you, also with big front mount I/C, Koyo rad and a low temp thermostat with opening time at 75 degree.  My temps are in range of 76-78 degrees in summer. Intake temps are at about 30-35 deg in summer at hot days and "normal" driving conditions.

I run an electric water pump summer-winter 60c only when I\'m sat in traffic for a very long time does it go up.
Intake winter is 15ish summer 30, even on wot full boost on the strip it now stays down 45 ish, which I,m well happy with on twins ( lots of extra heat soak with twins ) . :wave

Monday night looking at 78/79 water an 19deg air cruising on the motorway. Thats with the standard rad stood up behind a FMIC and C-west front end ! Drawing air from behind the intercooler ! No water injection yet !

Did some boost runs and it only raised to 22 degs with 0.95bar of boost :) after about 8 runs of 3rd gear WOT !

there seems to be quite a range of temps here.  So why is this?  Could it e the accuracy of the senders?

I would have thought mine would of been on the lower end of the scale having just had a complete rebuild along with new pulleys, water pump and the FMIC?

ot depends on what front nose you got on the car too as something like the C-West front has more open air ducts so your intercooler gets more cold air feed  :King

Also, i think there are some people running cooler thermostats too.

I get 85oC water temps and 32-35oC air temps according to my PFC. Thats on a steady drive around. If i get stuck in traffic they do both climb up rather quickly.
Scared myself once when i got back in my car not long after a long hard drive to see the water temp up to 107oC! but within a matter of 20 seconds it was down to below 90 again

Yeah, that can happen. It\'s due to heat soak from the engine on the standing water in the engine. That\'s why it comes down so quickly because the water in the radiator system cools down a lot quicker, and then once the engine starts it pumps the cooler water around the engine. It\'s not anything to worry about - as long as those temps come down!

Yeah, i was the same:"OMG: My temps are over 105C! Argh!" but, as you said, they came down quickly. Can be shocking the first time you see that!

My twin turbo with HKS FMIC- 5°C above ambient intake or less during slow running.
Saw 39°C climbing above an ambient of 8° at 130mph 0.9bar boost.

Water Temp 92*°C steady.

Don\'t forget to correct for ambient on intake temps.
I need to improve my airflow through the intercooler. At 31°C above ambient i\'m in trouble on a hot day.
