Title: Help needed with front some mods?
Post by: mardus on February 13, 2006, 06:23:12 AM
Hi, i just imported an Rx-7 from japan to south africa and i am doing some mods on it. I would like to find out if it is possible to change my \'95 Rx-7\'s induction components in the front to match the \'99 front spoiler i fitted? (the new induction vents don\'t match with the old components).

Secondly if there is anything on a \'95 model Rx-7 type R that goes wrong frequently that i should loook at or anything in general that i should know, please send me a mail. Would really appreciate any help. I love my car and want to make sure it stays in tip top shape. Thanks

Hi Bud.
I used to live in JHB, my Avatar is me in my RX-2 at Leeuwkop - where are you?
Have you owned a Rotary before?
Can you be more specific about what you mean by "induction". Induction means the air going into the engine. On our cars that air comes from the top of the main big hole in the bumper, kind of just behind the number plate. Will you change the whole nose, or  just  the new spoiler?

Maybe you meant the ducts for the brakes and oil cooler?

Hey man, nice to hear there are so many S.A rotary fans. I want to put the new front bumper on my car but those doct for the oil coolers dont line up. is there something i can do? maybe get the new ducts as well as the bumper...
This is my first rotary car, but i have been an avid fan for many years. It took a year and many sleepless nights to get it here. It is a \'95 Type R in red. I have just sent it to be sprayed as it faded alot from standing in the sun for so long. It has about 90 000km on the clock, the interior is perfect and the motor is stock and running nicely.

I have also started taking out the cat and putting in a new computer to overide the limiter as well as a dump valve and boost gauges. i awnt to change the intercooler, not sure what to do there yet though. Have also ordered all new seals and hoses for the car.

Yes, we\'ve got "Oldone" on here, used to race RX-2s as well, also moved moved from there to the UK.

Ok, basics first, Rotaries dont respond well to NEGLECT. You must check the oil and water very very often. You do know it burns oil, right? So check the oil often. Also, just one overheat and the motor need rebuilding. Dont EVER let the motor run too hot.

Its good that you are upgrading the computer because the standard one cannot keep up with the fuel demands once you start modifying things. Running lean leads to detonation ( pre-iginition), which will kill the apex seals VERY quickly, especially in your warm climate.

Sparkplugs dont last long because they are constantly exposed to the combustion phase, without much rest or cooling in between. Roughly 5-10 thousand KM I think you can expect from them.

I am not sure if the spares guy, Robbie, still works at Rand Ford, are you getting your spares from him by any chance, and if so, tell him Martin Yates sends regards !

Cant comment on the new nose, mines a 92, which I think is the same shape as yours, - I know others on here have changed their bumpers to 99 shape, I hope they\'ll comment.

For used parts, check out "jimmys" who advertise on this page, not sure of the carriage costs, though.
