Title: Making the greddy elbow fit stock intercooler
Post by: G@NDY on February 12, 2006, 01:34:14 PM
Just wondering how people go about fitting the greddy elbows to the hard pipes on a stock positioned intercooler? as there is about an 8 inch gap? Do you just mock up the measurements and bends on a bit of card and get a pipe making firm to dust one up, (has anyone got a template?) or is there actually a proper piece of pipe ready for the job? Any advice as usual will be appreciated. Cheers Andy :WaveBye

make a template up of card and company called fusion fabrication will do a pipe in polished stainless steel with flattened welds(ie smooth welds)

Ooooooooooo talk about hijacked :2eek Well i have the greddy elbow and the little bend that fixes onto the trust smic. But that pipe is meant to join the plastic stock elbow which is longer, if you have the missing link for me blitzboy, so to speak ;) Then i would like to take it off your hands, cheers :wiggle (money is no object, just as long as its cheap ;) )

Well these two pipes fit the stock Intercooler , I will take some pics tomorrow.
The long pipe goes from the elbow to the intercooler , the second pipe from the crossover to the bottom of the intercooler

I thought you were going for the Front mount rather than the SMIC, Gandy ?

Well my initial plans were to go front mount, but when i thought it got lost in the post i bought a side mount as it was getting very close to D-day (garage time !!) and i needed something pretty smartish. I was a little disappointed at the thought of running a side mount as i have heard that they suffer from heat soak. But after a few days of thinking it over, the side mount has won the day, mainly due to the fact that i dont want to move the battery and, a slim line wont be any good as they dont really hold their charge and as i park front in to my garage and often leave it weeks without starting it, it would be a night mare to try and jump start the thing, plus i have always thought that front mounts sometimes spoil the look of the standard front end, and i want my car to be a sleeper :Tongue1. Also Laeeq is running a side mount and has a handsome 430bhp @ the wheels, so they arent that bad.
Blitzboy thanks, a photo would be nice, but unless you are willing to split the pipes then i may be wasting your time, as i have the intercooler inlet?turbo pipe sorted. its the elbow side pipe i need matey :mmmm

I have a Greddy/Trust SMIC, is a huge improvement over the stock unit. Only thing to bear in mind is the bracket goes over and blocks the cold air feed into the stock air box, if you have induction filters this shouldnt matter.

Does a very good job when driving though, am pleased with it and it wasnt a huge hassle to fit.

Thanks Blitzboy. I have been thinking and im not sure if they would fit a trust side mount, because of the thickness of the cooler, they would be to long if they were for the standard one. But that nice shiny pipe would have been spot on. I think i will have to decline if you wont split, bet you could get alot more than £60 tho, on the dreaded electronic bay. Thanks again buddy :Thumbsup!
