Title: Increasing boost pressure
Post by: Tintin on February 10, 2006, 10:17:04 PM
I\'ve had a little idea for a short term fix to my overfueling ,

At the moment I\'ve got an RE-Amemiya ECU and its running my car really rich , so I\'m losing power , unfortunatley the ECU isn\'t remappable so I was thinking If I raised the boost pressure this would make the engine run leaner wouldn\'t it  ???

I can\'t really afford to get an PFC and have it mapped at the mo so I thought this might bring the AFR down a bit and give my more ponies at the same time

What do you guys think ? will this work or is it a bit risky ???

from experience i would say that the ecu is running the car on the lean side. Get an apexi and save yourself the engine rebuild if you turn the boost up

If you can\'t afford an apexi and mapping then you sure cant afford a rebuild !!

I\'d leave it rich pal.

fair point don\'t want a rebuild at the mo , just thought it might work but it sounds like its not worth the risk

cjr - its definatly running rich , when I had it on the RR the AFR was 10:1 which I was told was over safe

Afr\'s are rich then but better rich than lean. This should not affect cruise though that should be stock as they don\'t play with that. Get an apexi and get it mapped. Then you can get a bit more power and fuel economy

If you up the boost you have no way of knowing how the ingition is tuned and no way of adjusting it to make the car safe. Higher boost isnt just about adding more fuel. Its more complicated than that.

Point taken guys , i was thinking along simple lines - more boost = more air volume , with no change to the fueling and that would cause the engine run leaner , obviously theres a bit more to it than that

Cheers for the input guess I\'ll have to keep saving although it looks like the PFC is even further away now as the brakes need some TLC  :(

just a thought. The apexi S-afc tricks the ecu into allowing you to add more fuel. I dont know if it will allow you be deduct fuel. It may be worth finding out if not the other options are plentiful.

I\'ll look into it , thing is once I did get round to getting a PFC a fuel computer would be redundent and wasted money

I was after using a boost controller coz it would still be used after

Unless I can find a second hand fuel computer going really cheap I think its probably better to save my pennies
