Post by: Gman on February 09, 2006, 10:28:30 AM
I want to spray my brake calipers cherry red, i have a can of normal spray paint to do this with.  If i then use a heat resistant lacquer will i be ok?

maybe worng but I was thinking the heat would be transmitted through the caliper behind the paint so lacquer on the out side would not be efective as the heat is conducted. does that make sense :) as stated just a thought, could be totally wrong.
I do know a guy who owns a body shop with a porsche 911 old style, and he used  2pac paint to do his calipers and has had no problems. now sure what 2 pac is or even if thats how you spel it but I thought he was a rapper:)

Now much help sorry

I\'ve had a look at the caliper painting kits but none come in the colour i want.  My thinking was if the lacquer sealed the paint then even if the paint got hot it wouldn\'t flake or melt!

I see what you mean
May be adding a colour into the white or red caliper paint maybe the way to go.

Halfords do a red caliper paint [brush on]its expensive but a tin will do prob. 10 calipers so when they get mucky you can do it all over again "oh joy of joy\'s"
if you want a pic of how they come out i can take one no prob\'s

I read using normal model shop type enamel paint will work well

Looks like it works, and cheap too.

I\'ve used Hammerite smooth as well. Havent had any problems so far, but they do need rubbing back and having a second coat adding on.
