I have standard discs on the front and one of them is warped so im looking at getting uprated discs this month.
I was wondering what everyone would recommend. Im only doing the front for now.
I have been looking at black diamond but are they worth nearly 300 quid (including pads) or is it just a name thing.
Thanks for your help mark
Hi Mark,
Yes your right for just under £300 we can sell you a pair of front Disc\'s and a full set of pads ( please do the backs to maintain balance) but I think you will find stock Disc\'s from Mazda are around £150 EACH.
Performance brake Disc\'s are def not all hype, ShyAuto has been far and away the biggest supplier of Black Diamond Disc\'s to the Rotary community over the last 4 years ( Black Diamonds words) and we know this product works.
We recently had a customer who had worn his Black Diamond disc\'s out after a couple of years and something like 20 track days and whilst he was with another vendor having work he was talked into having stock Disc\'s fitted to his car and the result is his brakes now feel like poo compared to what they did and he is currently saving penny\'s to put Black Diamonds back on !
Why is this then ?
Years ago brake Disc\'s on things like old Escorts and Cortinas never wore out but then these cars never really stopped either !, then as metal technology progressed it was found that more malable ductile Disc\'s actually improved brake performance by giving more bite rather than just relying on pads.
Black Diamond have been proved to be a very cost effective way of stopping our cars and many people out there know this, so no its not all hype.
The only thing that I will say is if you are using your car on road only Black Diamond pads are fine but if you are trackdaying or Racing you will need to look at Hawk or Racing Ferodo to put against your Black Diamond Disc\'s.
So ends this BD advert, seriously we sell many types of brakes and brake systems for these cars and we recently sold a Brembo Brake set for £2300 and that was just for the fronts !, its just that the Black Diamonds offer the cheapest way of giving your RX-7 a good brake upgrade.
BTW did I remember to mention Black Diamond in the write up above :rollin :rollin :rollin :rollin
Seriously I hope the above helps :Thumbs-up .
There is a huge choice of disc\'s and pads for RX7\'s, and Black Diamond amoungst the most popular, I have supplied enough to make me carry them in stock and have used them on my own car. Disc life will depend on car usage and pad type, I run mine on HT10\'s and wore them out in under a year, but did some heavy track days with them, they never let me down so have no complaints about there life, other customers have had them years.

A cheaper alternative would be after market plain replacements, but unless stock with no track day use would avoid, but fronts can be suppplied fron under £80.

If you are serious about stopping then we have Endless, tried and tested on the race track, and lots more money than Black Diamond. Every thing from disc\'s, pads, fluids and complete sets.

Ferodo pads also a popular choice and in stock.

Hawk have a massive range, and been succesful in all types of motorsport, we have just about every type of Hawk pad in stock from RX2 to RX8, choice will be down to what you expect from your pad and performance of your car.

Our online shop has made it easy for you to buy, carrage will be automatically calculated unless you wish to collect, and you will have several methods of payment.
To add a little user perspective...
I\'ve had the following combos on mine:
1) Stock disks and pads all round.
2) Black Diamond Combi disks front; Pads: Hawk HT10 front and HP+ rear.
3) Stock disks front; Pads: Hawk HT10 front and HP+ rear.
Will have BlackDiamond GROOVED ONLY once the car\'s back from fettling. In order of worst to best we go 1, 3, 2 (not suprisingly).
I would warn against the BD combis though (grooved and drilled) as I had a major problem with cracking after a couple of short track sessions (although one did include 150-50mph breaking! To be fair Black Diamond replaced at their own cost (with the non-drilled version) as they recognised it as a production problem with that set.
If you\'re serious about stopping the car and haven\'t already I\'d also reccomend upgrading to braided hoses and 5.1 fluid. You should have no fade issues with normal track day usage.
Iain
I have currently got Brembo drilled and grooved discs all round with Hawk HP+ pads and braided hoses. Can\'t complain about the stopping power for stock size discs and calipers. Get no brake fade on street use and bite really well.
I\'m currently upgrading my fronts to AP racing 6 pots and 14 inch rotors!! So selling my front set up.

Hi Mark, I have recently bought from Gary the black diamond drilled/groved combi front and back with Hawk \'blue\' track pads front and back also. I did a flat out 40min session around Brands Hatch last Friday and had no/ very little brake fade. Usually the track sessions are about 20 mins each to let everything cooldown but I did double that and they worked very nicley. I went to the track without changing my brake fluid which was BLACK and the brakes worked fine.
Ian I had also heard about the Black Diamond combi\'s cracking but Ive had no trouble with mine so far. Maybe you had a bad batch or maybe they have changed how they make them now.... or maybe Ive just been lucky :p
I have steel brake lines aswel but Im nots sure exactly what these do. Think it gives you a better feel to them, probably wrong though.
The setup I have now over the stock brakes are so much better. Hope this gives you a little bit of insight to what the brakes are like.
Thanks guys. I dont do trackdays, its just a road car so i may stick with black diamond discs and pads, Im gonna take your advice about the grooved/drilled cracking and just get grooved.
I have sent you a email dre so i might even end up with brembo.
I forgot to mention im already getting braided hoses to stop the flexing of the pipes.
I will just be happy when i can brake without the car rattling :)
Thanks again mark.
