Title: Help Urgent
Post by: riber3 on January 27, 2006, 06:06:10 PM
Hello Everybody,

I am in need of serious help as on Christmas week 20th December 2005 to be precise there was a knock on my door and when I opened it there was a policeman there and by the look on his face I thought something serious had happened to a family member!!! but just as bad he asked me if I was the owner of the Mazda RX7 parked outside and when I said yes, he then told me it had been hit by a passing car and it was severely damaged.

NOW AT THIS POINT I WOULD LIKE SAY

1 I WAS IN BED WHEN THE POLICEMAN CALLED &

2 THE CAR WAS PARKED SQUARELY & SAFELY ON A 16FT WIDE ROAD &

3 NOBODY WAS IN IT!!!!

The driver of the other car a newish VW Passat tried to to do a runner but his car came to a grinding halt about half a mile away because a neighbour of mine heard the crash and thought he had hit another car chased him down and it was at this time the police were called.

Eventually he plucked up the courage to come to my door and said "Sorry mate I didn\'t see it!!!"

My car was taken to an approved repair centre later that day and I had to sign a waver to say that any damage incurred by them whilst in transit I cannot claim for??? which didn\'t please but what choice did I have???

And it wasn\'t until 11th January 2006 that the Assessor a man called Neville finally got around to checking over my car

As you can see from the damage the passat driver must have well over the 30mph speed limit to have caused so much damage and definitely not in control of his vehicle to do the amount of damage he has done BUT IT IS REPAIRABLE!!!.

The repair centre has estimated £3000 to repair it.  The car is Insured for £5000 on a classic car policy and the list of parts to repair it are offside front suspension anti roll bar steering arm etc and for some strange reason the assessor is asking for a new offside chassis rail???

I gave the assessor as much information as I could regarding suppliers and clubs etc and since that day to this I have had no call backs from the insurance company except for last Tuesday 17th January 2006 when I was given my hire car a Fiesta need I say more!!!

But as of today the 27th January 2006 after another week going by and them still not calling me I called them and was told the following.

They still haven\'t come to a final descision and it is likely that they will write the car off and offer me £2500 for it. Apart from choking and telling them where to stick it I was then told to provide them with as much information as possible by Monday Morning 30th January 2006 in regards to parts and valuations of other cars so that they can try and get the car repaired rather than write it off

Now I have to say at this point that although I am not happy with the speed of service I have got from this insurance company and I cannot understand why the assessor decided it was a good idea to lie to Matt of RX Motors and make out he was my mechanic in order to get prices for parts??? including the strange request for a chassis rail?? Please bear in my mind this gentleman is allegedly a classic car enthusiast who drives a P6 Rover (bless him)

SO THIS IS WHAT I NEED

A PRICE LIST FOR ALL OFFSIDE STEERING AND SUSPENSION PARTS FOR A 1985 SERIES 1 MARK 3 MAZDA RX7 INCLUDING AN OFFSIDE CHASSIS RAIL

A PRICELIST FOR BODYKITS

Any additional evidence of how much we value our cars

ALL ADVERTS OF CARS FOR SALE FOR £5000 or more doesn\'t matter how old the adverts are

Now I know my car is not everybodies cup of tea and but it has taken me 7 years to get it thus far and I was looking forward to attending many shows and doing some rallies/roadtrips etc this year and the stress is killing me knowing that this might be nothing more than a pipe dream. So Please please please any help from anyone out there would be most welcome

I can be contacted directly at paulribera@hotmail.com I have attached some piccy\'s of the damage

With regards to all

Paul

send me the photos and i\'ll stick them up (photo upload is members only)

seems like a shame if it can\'t be repaired :( I don\'t think I\'ve seen any 1st gens selling for £5K in a long while though. I think you will struggle to find a new chassis rail as well :(

Post by: riber3 on January 27, 2006, 07:41:17 PM
It is far worse underneath mainly the impact bent the main anti-roolbar that runs from the chassis mounting to the front suspension leg its bent like a banana and forrced a crack in the seam at the front of the floor.

Apart from the bent wheel (brand new!!!) the end steering arm is bent and apart from the repair to the bodywork thats it.

Even Rx Motors were surprised by the request for a new chassis rail!!! I do think that the assessor is being over zealous here and is just trying to find a way to write it off

I saw a nice standard 30k miler go for £4k on ebay, but we\'re not talking about a standard car here.

have you thought about getting a new chassis rail manufactured by a car restoration company, rather than trying to buy new. If you fail then the other option may be to do a deal with the insurance company to keep the car and whatever the pay out is use it to buy another car with a dead engine and use the money to pay for the restoration of the car.
I may know of one in Hampshire as I am contemplating it myself as I need parts for mine but this one looks to good to break.
If you want to talk more mail me dave.reynolds@dickinsonlegg.com

Strangely enough I came up with the same idea myself and got some names and addresses out the phone book and I have included them in my draft to the insurer and I agree it does seem like a good idea.  Good luck with you car

If you haven\'t had time to get this info together that you need then tell them they\'ll have to wait - they kept you hanging on and then to give you a few days to gather supporting evidence is not reasonable.

It it your insurance or the other driver\'s?  Remember - you\'ll probably have legal cover on your own policy if you need to get arsey with his insurers.  alternativly you canpersue him directly for any unrecovered loss through small claims.  You can now do this online and it\'ll cost you £50 to instigate.

If you\'ve got the guy\'s contact details you could always try explaining to him that you\'re going to be out of pocket by £xx and that you\'re going to have to go down the legal route to recover it as youcan\'t afford not to...  he might have a concience!

Bottom line is, assuming it\'s his insurance, that you should have a car that\'s equivalent to your old one.  Assume a bodykit to be £2k plus and add that to a standard car, add on the cost of whels etc and you\'re soo over the 5k you\'re after.

Hi Lao,

Thanks for the advice and I will go down that road if I have to.  I have now submitted as much supporting evidence as I possibly can I will let evryone know the outcome

Paul, my car is for sale if i can get near what its worth.
Mine has 60K on the clock, it has been restored & re sprayed (all the running gear is powder coated & most the fastenings are stainless).  I have a history file with all the build photos & receipts for £10k or more. The engine is only just run in (only done a hundred or so miles max since the new lump went in.)  The interior & body work are standard, no bodykit.  The only clues to the 230rwhp are the wheels & the can.  The agreed value before the latest mods went on was £4.5K.  Its had a 12aturbo with low comp rotors & aggressive porting, a TII turbo & ignition, FD fuel pump & lines, custom exhaust, konis & an expensive boost controller since then.  Even the floorpan has new paint.

Phone me if you want more details - the spec is huge!

Dunno, I\'d keep this one if I could find someone to fit a rack instead of the steering box.  Spoils an otherwise sweet (&terrifyingly fast!) sexy car.

Thats whats made me loose interest really, I have had some interest from a local engineering place which i havent had time to chase up yet.  I guess thats another reason, since I got the car back i reckon I\'ve only driven her maybe 10 times, I\'m just too busy to make the most of her.  Hasn\'t been out the garage for a couple of months.

Hi Paul
have been following your tale of insurance company rip off merchants, can only say I sympathise with you. I was checking out some bits on Ebay earlier today and came across an Elford Turbo, engine in bits but body looks good. After convincing myself I didn\'t want it, I thought you may be interested.

Post by: riber3 on February 28, 2006, 09:47:37 AM
Hi Dave,

Thanks for that I had a look at it and it may have done the job but I did find a black one on ebay that I was bidding on but got pipped at the post but it did start to get silly towards the end. Some guy from Norwich bought it I think ah well

The Good news is that I had a Body repair specialist look at my car and said he can straighten it out so I will stripping it at the weekend so I Can get it ready to go down there.

After measuring the chassis points etc I found it to have been pushed in by 5 mm once its straightened I can then the new parts fiteed and welded better

Regards

Paul

Hi Don,

Didn\'t realise you were selling hope you get a good price for it With regards to the sterring rack problem mine is fitted with a gen 2 rack and no steering box.

Same problem when doing slow manoeuvering such as parking but great around the rounds.  Never heard of the ford conversion but might be worth a look

Cheers

Paul

ps what are going to get next 3rd gen??
