Title: Rpm Question
Post by: LeedsLad on January 25, 2006, 10:46:30 PM
Would I be right in thinking that a 13B is geared down 3:1 before the power reaches the gear box to increase torque?, if so does that mean that when the dial reads say 3000 rpm it’s actually doing 9000rpm?

The rotors and eccentric shaft (Output) turn at differing speeds with the shaft  turning turning 3 times to every full revolution of the rotors.
The rev counter measures the revs of the eccentric shaft which means that at say 3000 rpm on your guage the rotors are actually only turning at 1000rpm.
For every one revolution of a two rotor engine you get 2 power pulses just like a 4 cylinder 4 stroke engine, but and here is the interesteing bit,the power strokes are quite a bit longer than a piston engine which makes for a smoother torque fluctuation, and actually a bit more power.
