Title: Where can I get an AST from??
Post by: Jim_rx7 on January 25, 2006, 10:33:38 PM
Just put a deposit down on a rx7 and wanting to get an AST for it as soon as I get it.

Anyone know where I can get a fairly cheap, decent one from?

Also any info as to how to replace it or even where the original one is in the engine bay?!?

I used to have a MR2 Turbo and knew everything I needed to about them... Now with the rx7, it\'s like learning all over again!!... I\'m clueless!!!!   :3Confused

No probs, you should be able to find most things you need from our vendors.

the ast is the black plastic box under the yellow cap that says, "never remove". i had a minor but annoying coolant leak that i just couldn\'t trace. finally the 2 plastic halves of the stock mazda ast split appart and dumped the top 2? liters of coolant all around the car. luckily it happened while i was in a carpark running the car down on the turbo timer. i guess the heat soak raised the coolant pressure. anyway it was very easy to order from mazda and replace. and my coolant leak disappeared so i guess the seal between the 2 halves was opening  slightly under high temp/pressure conditions only when driving    eric e

If you want some advice Go for an Alloy one, Pip at WGT can do one for around £100

Sounds more expencive than buying a second hand Plastic one but the stockers have a problem with Splitting and dropping all the engines Coolant causing overheating (Realy not good one a Rotary)

I agree with Grizzly,i wouldn\'t get a second hand plastic one as they will split with age. However my logic was that it can\'t hurt to fit a brand new plastic one(afterall the last one lasted over ten years from new :yes )so that\'s what i did.
