i have an Exedy clutch fitted at the moment that was already installed when i bought the car (94 FD). i therefore don\'t know exactly what model it is (presumably only possible to find out by taking it apart), although it is definately a ceramic/metallic as it grinds and judders, especialy from cold, and the biting point is sudden to put it mildly! tbh it\'s doing my head in a bit as its a bitch to drive around town, and although i only use the car at weekends, i still go shopping in it! it also makes changing gears a bit slower as you have to feed it in as opposed to dropping it smoothly but quickly.
what i want to know is what i should swap the exedy for so i have a more user friendly clutch. my car isn\'t running more than 300hp atrw and even when i\'m done with it it won\'t be more than 350. the car has only done 35,000 miles since new so assuming the clutch wasn\'t fitted from new it should be in a reasonably good condition to sell on. i can\'t afford to spend a lot of money to make the change-will a standard clutch be ok for the power?
thanks!
Give Geff a ring at RE:WORX -- link at the top-- I have the Extreme single plate and it just feels like a normal clutch. Many others have now got it fitted and will attest to it\'s worth. HTH.
yeh im booked into reworks anyway in a few weeks time. that would definately be the ideal solution but im not sure my wallet will take it! how much is the extreme including fitting? presumably it could be fitted by any clutch specialist?
Sorry mate I can\'t remember now but go on there site I sure it\'s on there It\'s around the £500 + mark I think but don\'t quote me. HTH. Get them to fit it as well then you know it\'s not been messed with.
I have an Exedy organic uprated one fitted at PowerGains. Very light, like a stock clutch and should handle 350 bhp. :)
We can supply you an Organic Exedy stage 1 clutch assembly which has a stronger than stock clamping force pressure plate, we will throw in a new cluch release bearing all for £385inc Vat.
Hope this helps.

i take it the pedal feel will be reasonably like stock?
presumably i will be able to sell the existing exedy to someone who needs more power handling in order to offset the cost. do you know roughly how much i can expect to get assuming its in good condition with plenty left?
thanks
Yes it will feel a little heavier than stock but not much.
I would have thought somewhere between £350 and £400 for your old unit as you say though depending on condition.
I have a twin plate clutch of unkown origin (i can take a peek at it later) that always felt really really user-friendly when I drove it, never stalled or made any noise.
It is used but in good condition, like I say it worked perfectly, and twin plate will handle the sort of power you want I guess.
Looking for £200 for it, i can take some pics and do some research on it if you interested?
ooh and i could deliver it to reworx for you as well, no problem.
thanks for the help everyone-yep i would definately be interested dandan if you can find out the exact make and model and let me know if its in good condition. do you know how much reworks would charge to swop clutches? i\'m booked in for 13 feb so if i could get it sorted then that would be ideal.
pls can you use my email- rawaddell@hotmail.com (rawaddell@hotmail.com), as i cant always access these pages.
thanks!

Please post some pics and I\'m sure we\'ll be able to work out the model and type.
Cheers,
Paul:)
cheers paul. hows \'the project\' going!?
I have a 2nd hand stock clutch pad/ pressureplate if you want it. Not sure how long it will have left though? Apparently it wasn\'t that warn. It wasn\'t slipping for me at all and I had no problems with it. I changed it because Im using the car for trackdays only now and it seemed like the right thing to do.
ok ill take some pics when i take a close look at it in case i can\'t figure it out.
Davehg helped me remove it, he might remember what it is if he\'s reading this?

cool. will i need other bits and pieces like bearings as well ,or will i be able to use the existing ones? only just familiarising myself with this clutch business!...
right here are some pics, I haven\'t removed one section from the bell housing yet so couldn\'t see behind it, but I could not see any manufacturer names anywhere so far.
First pic is the piece inside the bell housing, and the second and third pics are of either side of the plate.

Sorry, but it looks like a std clutch to me. Twin plate cluthes are exactly that two seperate clutch plates with a centre transfer plates, a cover and usually uses a thinner/lightweight flywheel.
Paul
that was quick! what max power is a standard clutch rated at? should i wait for an upgraded option or do you think a standard will be ok for mainly road/occasional track?
cheers

I asked Miguel or Gareth that very same question before. And learnt that on Miguel\'s old set up(when he was still running twins), he was putting down quite a bit of power over standard(330, 350??) without any problem. :Thumbs-up
As Paul says, it\'s a totaly stock "renault" clutch.
What mods have you got as I can see no signs of slipping or blueing.
I would say you can either put this one back if the drive plate thickness is O/K or refit a new stock assembly.

lol, the renault box was the closest flat surface to hand!
This isn\'t the clutch with problems clive, it is one I am trying to sell to replace the problem clutch.
This clutch was holding onto 275 rwhp without any issues, and yes it was mated to a lightened flywheel too. It looks in good nick, so is still available if wanted RAW. :)
I was just told it was uprated, having never seen a clutch before I had no idea! Every day is a school day!
Surely standard/stock clutches should handle anything up to 350rwhp no problems?
Good luck WM, hope it does not hurt your wallet too much! tbh I\'d be sure you have def interest on your exedy twin plate before going ahead with this, would be pretty rubbish if no-one wants it once its out!
:Thumbs-up
