Title: Single Turbo
Post by: jetpilot on September 17, 2003, 07:44:56 PM
Hi Guys and Girls, i am trying to get some advise on single turbo kits. Mainly, what sort of hp from different kits, i see there are plenty around and varying in price. Obviuosly it all comes down to the actual turbo i would presume, so what turbo gives what figures. My mods at the moment extend to full exhaust and downpipe, filter kit, apexi power fc, i do also want to add a front mount intercooler also in the not to distant future.

Wow! Now that is an absolutely huge set of questions......

Try this site for good turbo descriptions:

http://www.scuderiaciriani.com/rx7/turbos.html

This gives a bit of background, and then try:

http://www.rx7club.com

This is a big site with many single turbo owners having their say - remember that some of the gear (exhaust manifolds mostly)shown will not fit RHD cars, as most members are LHD....but there are some of our club members on there as well.

HP from the various kits? Depends on boost and the setup of the engines. The site above should give you some idea of the possibilities!

All single turbo conversions offer more potential than the stock twins. Enjoy reading!

Resist the temptation to go large on the boost though unless you enjoy regular rebuilds :(

Thank you for that information, a lot of reading to do know. How does the electronic side of things work out, i.e surely the ecu is set up to run two turbo\'s, or am i being particulary blonde.

Nah!

Just a little highlighted maybe ;)

Most aftermarket ECU\'s that can control the stock twins also have the option to turn sequential control off.

You cannot go single turbo on stock ECU though, but you wouldn\'t want to anyway for many reasons!

Once you\'ve got an aftermarket ECU can you run the stock twins in parallel rather than sequential?

I heard of people doing this on Supras but didnt know about the RX. Also didnt know if it as easy as changing ECU settings?

So does that mean with my Apexi Power FC i can change them to run in parallel. If so how and what advantages would this bring to driving and performance. Do i need to make any other mods.
