seen a post on this before, but i didnt know what the outcome was on it.
i got a blitz twin induction kit second hand. i didnt know theyre supposed to come with a restrictor or something to put in the pipe to the air pump.
i need this part cuz it\'l drive me mad (wen revs its fine, but on deceleration it moo\'s)
ive tried just unplugging the airpump from the clip on the top, but it makes the engine idle like a bag of sh*t :Grrr
any other ideas? or anyone got this part kicking about??
cheers
Justin
I wouldn\'t run the car with the airpump disconnected unless its been decatted. I went back to my standard airbox after that noise drove me mad and it happens at the kind of revs you\'re usually at when you go past bus stops and gets you some funny looks :3Confused
Not sure where you can get a restrictor from, might be an idea to try the vendors at the top or run the standard airbox with a K&N panel filter.
apparently on the us sites this is quite a common thing when fitting an aftermarket induction kit. My new one i just picked up from the docks does it and it is driving me mad too!
Get the standard setup guys, its much better.
wot u mean standard setup??
standard airbox and normal filter? doesnt look anywhere near as good tho does it? :3gears-lh
Justin
Thats EXACTLY what I mean. It will stop the mooing and it works a WHOLE lot better.
Do you drive around with the bonnet open? Who is going to see it?
why is the standard air box better martiny?? im going tom make a complete heat shield around the twin filters so they cant get the heat from the engine. i made one for my last car from stainless steel and covered the internal side in carbon fiber. the steel absorbs the heat and the carbon stops it getting thru to the filters. worked a treat on my last car. also looks ace.
Justin
yet again damian saves the day by providing the world with a write up on how to fabricate a custom heatshield..what a top bloke. He has done a lot of writeups on various how to`s for the fd. He has even done a template for people to download in a pdf format so you can fabricate it easily. Visit his video site..there are some interesting vids of him racing various cars including a lamborghini gallardo! Damian is THE MAN!!

The standard setup is better than what you have NOW. If you can make it as quiet, draw cold air from outside the front of the car, and not reduce the life of the engine, then I will relent and say your setup is as good as the stock setup.

ok martiny, cheers for the tips, and im not gonna argue as you blatently know more about a rotary than me (which isnt hard to be fair). i\'ll stick with the standard airbox until someone figures out how to stop the dumb assed noise.
in the mean time i\'ll have a gander at the template that robbie\'s saviour :god has done. if its ace and i can make it in under an hour (Blue peter stlyee :cool ) we\'ll start another club for damo!
one question tho mate, do you know why the noise doesnt happen with the airbox but does with the filters??
justin
mmm,
firstly, I am on my tenth Rotary engined car, I\'ve been driving them since 1978 !! :-)
After looking through the links provided to Damian\'s work, etc, there is some very neat fabrication by him. So his idea is to draw air from the second oil cooler opening. I couldnt figure out if his car actually has the second oil cooler or not.
Anyway, it seems its a system called the air control valve ACV that causes the moo when it lets off air. This is normally connected to a pipe that ends up inside the standard air box.(Hence no noise)
It seems to me your Blitz kit just lets this air vent straight into the engine bay?
On Damian\'s thread it seems some guys take a pipe all the way back from this down to the oil cooler vent. This would probably be enough to quiten the moo!
If you search enough you will find the factory service manual on-line, find it and start reading about the Air Control Valve. I "think" its something to do with pumping air into the exhaust as it reaches the manifold.
If you fabricate a nice box like Damian and draw outside air, then I will look at you car and say "hey, thats a nice intake system". But, when people throw away the stock setup and stick 2 sponges on there, then I say "oh you\'ve got an induction kit", but I will be asking myself, " why, oh why, would anyone WANT to draw hot air from under the bonnet?"
Welcome to the world of Rotary by the way, I hope you become as hooked on them as I am !! :-)))))))))))))))
cheers martiny. i think i know wot the pipe is that vents downwards then. i havent got time to look at the moment as im tryin to sell my old car. also having some temermental idling issues, nuffin huge but when sat at idle and its revved it drops real low to nearly stalling. gonna have a look at the tps, but i dont knwo if this would be the problem as ive never touched it and the inlet hasntbeen ioff since ive had it so i hasnt be bumped out of place.
will check it all when i get time tho
cheers
Justin
Idling problem is because you have the air pump disconnected!!
it isn\' disconnected mate. i only unplugged it to see if it made any difference and it did. idled like crap (even more) and didnt moo.
im thinking seeing as my mate said my cat was RED HOT when he looked at it and the emissions are bad that the cats died! :2Confused
this could be the problem. cat is knackered, blocking up the system, therefore the lambda sensor is sending mixed messages to the ecu and its idling like crap.
anyone??
I thought you said it revved ok Justin, it may be worth resetting the ECU, by disconnecting the battery foot on brake pedal for 30 secs, reconnect battery, i dont like the sound of that hot cat though mate,
Bob
the cats blowing aswell as i had it on my mates ramps today, not anywhere visable. gonna try and get hold of a new or nearly new cat.
wanna sell urs???? :p
