Title: FD Aftermarket Sun Roof
Post by: craigr on January 18, 2006, 02:23:53 PM
Hi all,

I used to own a 93 UK spec FD and really enjoyed having a sun roof.

I now have my 2001 model, and wondered if anyone has any experience of aftermarket sunroofs. I loved the UK spec one as the lid still had the nice central wave in it to conform to the roofline, and of course the headliner controls were nice.

Can a UK one be fitted to a Jap car (although I doubt I will be able to find a scrapped UK car with sunroof intact) - or has anyone had an aftermarket one fitted, and what were the results like ? Does the switching look OEM, or stuck-on ? What is the roofline like ? How does it work with a stock headliner ?

Many questions - thanks for any responses.

Craig

Craig I have often thought about this myself. I love a sunroof. I cant see how it can be done without being VERY expensive.

Craig,
One of the main problems you have with an aftermarket roof is the contoured lines of the roof of the FD, the only way I can see this working is to cut the roof section from a donor FD (either UK or Jap type X) I know there will be donors out there although cutting the roof off a 2001 car is fairly courageous!!!

I guess it comes down to how much you want that roof???

Thats what i planned to do Chris, but i was thinking a 93 car, but i wanted a sun roof so much that i would have cut the roof and fitted one from a donor car had i not managed to get a Jap type X,  good luck Graig but i can\'t see an aftermarket one fitting very well, due as Chris said the to contoured roof,

Yep - I was planning on the same, but didn\'t think I was likely to find any donor cars.

While it\'s a nice to have, I don\'t want to end up with a shabby job, so unless I can find something (along with a decent bodyshop who will make it look as good as factory), I will give up.

Hi guys,

I currently own a FD without sunroof. I too want to transfer an existing FD sunroof into my ride. So this is doable? Is it safe to do so?

Anyone here have done so, do let us know....

Thanks alot...
