Title: EGI running gear and electrics in a turbo II
Post by: prisspringle on January 17, 2006, 07:01:51 PM
i might have found a new shell for cheap but its a TurboII, now is there any diffeances in the engine and gearbox mounts, i know i can use the fuel pump.

can i unplug the wireing loom and ecu from my egi and swap the over to the new shell.

is there anything else that might not/wont swap over?

cheers chris  :Thumbsup!

rite the shell i\'ve found is a red turbo II its on ebay( under spares ) it looks farly tidy tho the pics a bit crapy,it needs a few small patches on the floor( its been done before but badly and wont pass an MOt) he says he wants about 150 for it less doors rear diff gearbox engine, not sure on the inside tho.

i think i have seen it , is it amanda hicks that emailed you ?

not a bad price for a shell

it all depends on the welding mate - it really does

i will have a t2 shell thats been welded up, but needs a respray - it wont have any loom or logicon and its minus an interior and possibly the diff no engine or box.  its in a month or two. and you can have it super cheap!  all you will need to do is rip everything out of your current motor. bobs your uncle.

hey dude.

yeh its red but it has white wings. it has a few little surface dents on the bonnet, and a little hole on one of the rear arches. and needs a respray as it has paint fade.

The welding was done by a classic car restorer i paid 300 quid for him to do it., it does have a sill damaged (been hit on a curb) but i have the the replacement sill section part. so you cut the old bit off and weld the new bit on wont be difficult.

the passenger side door needs sorting but you can change it for your own. theres a spare door that needs a bit more work doing to it to make it perfect.

It has all glass and lights and stuff, the interior i wanna keep and also the diff and the sideskirts.

Im transplanting the engine, loom and the warning / ignition lights(logicon) from it into a cabriolet. so you wont have to strip it.

Sort us with a hundred and fifty and its yours kid. and i live in Doncaster. not too far from you (about 60miles)

BTW small patches rarely mean that. i started with a fifty pence size hole and i ended up having to replace half the floor!!!!!! i will upload some pics later.

arr its that chassis, i forgot you was having stus vert.

sounds like a better deal than the ebay one! so it will have all suspension, wheels, steering, brakes ect then.

would it fail an MOT with the sill damage?

possibly, might fail - but dont know for sure, its only a big dent in the outer sill its not structural.. and i have the repair section anyway...

i dont quite know what needs changing or replacing on the vert. whatever the vert needs from the t2 its going to be taken off.  i truthfully didnt think about the brakes and stuff, so the price is for a pilaged shell - anything thats missing you can swap the bits from your rotten one on there. the shell is definatly going to be a rolling one so suspension and wheels - obviously steering wheel included! although apart from this i dont quite know.

anyway a stripped shell is good as then you can easily change the colour of it if you want and 150 is a friend price!  - the body work isnt that bad just little small dents in some places... i have repaired some of them.

all goodies such like my shiny gorgeous 3" straight through exhaust is not included!!!!! :)

that sounds fair, when you get some pics will you send them to:- prisspringleuk@hotmail.com

150 sounds fair if you e-mail me we can sort payment out.

i\'ll take it that egi and tII parts swap over nicely altho mixing them isn\'t a good idea.

its gonna be a few weeks tho before i get started.

im just happy i dont have to scrap the shell this means the RX7 lives! i will email pics on saturday, as during the week i leave home before the sun rises and get back well after its set!

there are pics of it on my rusty the clown thread.

you will need to take out the engine and box from yours as well as the engine loom, which isnt difficult as the loom comes out with the engine. i have researched the subject and will give you all the info you need nearer to the time.

the shell has done 77K i have the V5 documents.

yer i also have to change the diff cos the tII box is longer so the driver shaft on the egi wont fit.it seems a simple enough swap by the looks of it.

thats really odd cos mines on the later side of 76K on the clocks!

when u get the car the conversion should be a LOT easier than mine.... as everything you dont need is going to be removed.

so far i have sussed out that i have to swap the following.

clocks.
engine loom.

logicon

diff - the convertable has a different ratio which will not do me lower end and the torque.

engine and box

make a custom mount for the gear box (a bit of metal with two holes!)
pedals.
clutch master cylinder.
and then wire the whole thing which isnt going to be too bad...

i am thinking of booking a week from work to do the main swap and tranfer and then spend weekends finishing bits off.. i have got most tools.such as various lengths of wrench, airtools and a compressor, an engine crane etc a few jacks and a few floor stands..  i have a guy from work helping me and the  FSM\'s and a load of "how to\'s"  cant go wrong can i LOLOL :)

you will most likely have to do the same....

and of course my lovely mates on the MRC!!!! whos up for helping me out on a weekend then? all the homemade curry (my mom made) you can eat!!!!
