Title: How much vacuum hose needed?
Post by: jasonlel on January 17, 2006, 01:29:58 AM
I\'m planning to change almost all of my vacuum hose esp the solenoids ones to silicon material. I have 3 sizes in mind, but could someone double check on my sizes and length needed.

Size | Length
4mm | 25feet
6mm | 6 feet
8mm | 8 feet

But I have some doubt with the figures I have. See below figures which is extracted from an online shop selling silicon hose for FD3s

- 40 feet of 3.5mm (all small solenoids).
- 15 feet of 4.0mm (Windshield washers and boost controllers).
- 16 feet of 6.0mm (larger air lines on engine).
- 4 feet of 8.0mm (larger air lines on engine).

Please advice.....

Hmm, I was going to price up the equivalent to what the US sites say to see if it\'s cheaper to buy here, I\'d assume they\'d got it right, maybe they just have extra in case you make a mess :)

not really sure, not actually done it myself, just have the link for removal of the plenum when i got it powdercoated. Was looking at doing it, but the engine was rebuilt about 18 months ago and all the pipework is ok (for now)

Hi Jason,

Sorry for not getting back sooner.

Personally for reliability I don\'t recommend silicon as there is a good chance of silicon falling off !.

There should be no need to go anywhere other than a Truck supply shop and buy some Gates oil/fuel resistant rubber pipe.

As Gates is the largest rubber pipe supplier in the world you should be able to locate the pipe you need O/K

Also I think your pipe lengths at least for the engine are wrong my company has supplied the small pipe many times and we normally send out around 10 foot.

Hope this helps.
