Title: 13BT or 13B-Rew
Post by: Ricco_04 on January 15, 2006, 06:52:15 PM
Was chatting to my mate the other night and he was asking how the car was coming on.  Got onto the subject of what power do you want, as you do!.  It\'s too easy to chase numbers but I want to know, which would be the better engine if big power was being chased?  So leads me to my question.  Im was going to rebuild the existing lump in the TII but would a swap to the 13bRew be better? (pros and cons)

I have done a few searches on here and there are two ways of doing the swap - get it all properly done with new mounting positions and the other was use the centerplate from the 13B to have the lower mounting positions. (Pros and cons)

Cheers, Ricco  :Talking1

ps : sorry, was not sure if this needed to be in tech or Gen 2  :spank

there have been several arguments,  i have a TII block in mine which had 384 at the wheels.   Others have an FD engine,  ultimately i spose an REW could give more power if you are gonna do the work, but it is a big job to do,  T2REW has done it and it was lots of work, my cousin has the same and again, lots of work.  Depends how much power you want.  Unless you want more than 350 ATW, then a TII engine will do the job, and you can still have an Apexi PFC to run it.

Great, cheers Antnicuk.

So the Rew has better potential for power.  Is there any one reason for this or is it that its just a more modern unit capeable of taking more stress?

For those of you have done the convirsion, what was the rough cost if you don\'t mind me asking?

Bigger inlet port runners as standard on the later engine ,but the actual ports are similar where they enter the engine.Less work is needed to increase that part of the port with the later engine.
The sky\'s the limit on cost because there is more than the engine to consider, fuel system, injectors, turbo, intercooler, rad, mapping, ecu and it goes on....................................................

How far do you go eh!  :bandit

We where goding each other (he\'s in the process of doing a TRD wide body MR2)  I have my FD for my daily and my westie for fun so was after something a bit special for the occasional track and strip day, which would be nice but I shouldn\'t really :D  I\'ll be asking how much for a 20b next!  :cool

Guess I should be safe for myself and something at or just of 300ATW should be spot on.  So as Antnicuk says 13Bt will do the job.

Is there anything that can be done to help with the extra stress that this puts on the engine?  I had read on here somewhere that the engine mounts on the 13Bt where reworked for the fd cause of the stress this puts on the engine?
