Also there are quite a few early RX refelectors, lights and bits listed, but fairly pricey. Looks like they will all end up being posted abroad.

noooooooooooooooo, that b1800 looks great, and my better half said ues as we need a pick up for loads of things. The only thing stopping me bidding is the lack of mot. Cant trailer it back to Mull! Anyone live near this red ute and might be able to help me. I can bribe you with beer or ceramics! ( I am a potter. //www.starfishceramics.co.uk) mods please feel free to delete my gratuitus website linkif too overboard. Also might be able to sling some money your way for helping with an mot?
 cheers, michael.

Well the seller of the red ute wont put an mot on the pick up due tothe fact he is too busy. So I guess that is me out of the runnimg before it started! but the best thing about fleebay is that chances are there will be another one up in a few month! :)

I cant believe that no-one has mentioned all of the old skool New old stock on there at the moment. There is heaps. And i reckon that the guy has loads more.

Michael. You are allowed to drive the car if you have an MOT Booked ! So you could buy it and drive it home provided you have an MOT booked for that day.

I am not sure, though, if it has to be the closest place, in the same county, or whatever,  might be worth investigating.

Post by: MikeLMR on January 26, 2006, 12:13:21 PM
you might get away with that ... although I bet the fine would be more than the cost of either hiring a tow waggon and trailer or get one of these haulage companies to go fetch it.

I think he\'s from a Mazda dealership.

I\'d be interested to know how much he really thinks he\'s going to get for the RX-3 rear lamp surround. It went up to some crazy price last time and yet didn\'t meet reserve!  :2Rolleyes This time round it looks like no one can be bothered with it :Giggle

Naa I watched the first auction go well past my budget. Great if you\'re building a show car and want the qdos of having brand new parts on it, but too much being asked for me to justify to my Mrs!

My guess is most of these items will end up heading downunder. There seems to be a lot of Ozzy bidders keen.

I would say that if you can get this engine it maybe reasonable, but it would certainly need pulling apart before anything else.
The rotor housings generally do not suffer, but the side plates maybe a bit corroded as they weren\'t nitrided at that time which offered a certain amount of corrosion inhibiter.
Come on Martin,nows your chance!

Carl

My twin dizzy needed a rebuild after sitting for a year & 1/2 while I was over here living in 2001. My parents ran it occasionally but a slight corrosion built up on the plates which screwed the side seals when I got it running again. This backs up what Carl said above.

That\'s one rusty engine!

mmm I am tempted, I am not scared of rebuilding the engine. I think it would be nice to have the authentic RX-2 engine, and hopefully I could get that one cheap.

Plus I hopefully wont have to mess around with engine mountings as I would have to if fitting a post 1974 engine.

Maybe Carl, Ray, Dave nixon or someone can find an RX-2 gearbox, and prop-shaft?

Do you guys think I would be able to use RX-7 carb, electrics, radiator and oil-cooler, etc?

Hey Martin, 2 of my best mates in oz both have an absolute bucket load of twin dizzy stuff that even though it is in great condition, in oz isnt valued to high. Basically if you are wanting to re-build an engine, 12a twin dizzy, then please ring around all the above advertised vendors first for bits. But if no joy let me know and i will forward you their phone numbers. Both guys are very trustworthy and absolute fanatics.
 cheers.
Actually one of them drove the absolute arse out of his rx2 that had an extreemly small budget re-build, ( most expensive bit was the bridge porting) and it went sooo well. Twin dizzy motors rock.

Ok, what I want to ask next is, did the UK RX-2 have a 5-speed gearbox?  Michael, I am sure Carl or Mazda can get me the seals and stuff, thats not a big worry.

I was thinking more along the lines of things like, period correct alternator brackets, manifolds, inlet and exhaust, thermostat housings etc. I would put absolute faith into carl coming up with the goods for seals etc.

Thanks Carl. Dave and Ray were talking £250 for their RX-2 motor. If I can get that one from Isle of Wight for a song, it might be the way to go for me. I am not building a drag car or a show car or a modified car. To be honest its not really a restoration project either, at the moment  - not a proper full restoration , anyway. So I think the RX-2 Motor might be the best for me with this car at the moment.  I just want it Rotorised again as a short term goal .

Go for it Martin, it\'s got to be worth the cost of a ferry trip, even if only half the engine is usable, any of the brackets on the outside that are to corroded can be used as a template to make new.

I need lots of help from you chaps on the 18th, to tell me what needs doing with engine mounts and cross members, gearboxes, etc.

R5000 = £500, for what, for you to install my motor?

i would guess the easiest way to rotorise it would be to get a cheap gen2 rx7 and use the engine box and rear axle from that?

unfortunately i want to keep the column shift box and need it to be fairly cheap to insure as its going to be my girlfriends first car!

Hi Mike :)

Its unbelievably good! the chassis looks mint, and the bodywork is none too bad either, theres a few little patches but nothing that wont sort...

Engine wise it smoked like a good \'un! got the head off now though, so a new set of valve stem seals should hopefuly sort it  :cool

plans are to wave the stick at it, the rear shouldnt be too hard, going to remove a few of the leaves and add some lowering blocks, the front is on springs which suprised me as i thought it\'d be torsion bar... so i\'m going to remove the springs and chop the bumpstops till its at a suitable height, then get some stiffer springs made up in the right length :)

ill chuck some pics up when i get back home  :cool

It was about \'81, when the front wheel drive 323 (X5) was introduced, that the estates went from 1400 to 1500, along with a restyled front end and interior

This was taken on the ferry back from Wexford where we used my navigators estate as a tow car/reccie car/chase car/service barge. We only actually put the car on the trailer to get onto the boat (I drove it too and from the ferry) as with all the weight and 5 hefty guys in it it was struggling a bit!It\'s engine lives on in my 1000 tho\':driving

I have seen this car a while ago,and it is much as the owner describes.
The bodywork needs some attention, but the floor and interioir are very good.
As for the engine I cannot say,as it did not run when I saw it,but it could be fine.

Sorry guys. Couldn\'t let it slip under the radar from the few on here that want one.

I\'m not bidding on it so don\'t worry. I would want to see the chassis number before buying that though. Just incase it wasn\'t a piston earlier in it\'s life.

Also there aren\'t anypictures of the front bumper and grille. These are extremely rare to find if they are broken or missing on the car.

LA22 is the code for the 72/73 12a twin dizzy model
( originally hardtops [ coupe ] had an H code at the end,, later coupes and sedans all cop the S code )

LA23 is the code for the 74-75 model in most countries
( i think in australia the code continues for s3 type )

LA33 is the later rx4 s3 front in some markets , though i suspect it actually relates to certain body mods for some markets ( US collision standards )

LA43 is the luce legarto ,, or rx9 in some euro markets ,, this is a very different body to all the earlier 929\'s
( the sedan is the one with the overhead twin stacked headlights )

HBSN2 is for 12a and 12at 929 LUCE/cosmo from 1981 through to 1987
HB3S is for 13b RESI luce/cosmo from 83-87

in NZ a mint one is in excess of $24k nz which is approx £13k ish. Not many here in the UK so it\'s hard to put a price on it as these just seem to go up and up.

The RX-3\'s that have sold previously on Ebay have gone to £1,800 from memory and they needed some work too. 3\'s are more desirable but 4\'s seem to have a good following in the UK - and so they should:yes

I saw a cleanish 1978 (I think) Mazda 323 go for over a grand...

I may have found another rx so I\'m watching this auction closely as my RX-4 Sedan could well be on Ebay soon.

I\'m not sure but it\'s gone up beyond 700 now. I\'m am going to be selling a few bits that I don\'t need for my rx4. Suspension 5 speed gear box etc. They won\'t be going on eBay though.

Interesting....what bits are you selling (aside from the ones mentioned just before)?

What bits do you need for your 4?

£740 for the ebay car...and climbing

I don\'t need anything. I think. Car came complete. I will get pictures of all the bits I\'m selling along with a list. Steering box is for sale. Chrome wheel trims, and hubs, but I think I only have 3 of this somewhere?! Hubs, brakes?! Can\'t remember other stuff

I assume it\'s real...however just playing the devils advocate.

Mazda 929\'s (piston version) can easily be turned into a clone RX-4 with a rotary engine/box and a few badges. These cars are still cool, don\'t get me wrong...

818\'s (808\'s in southern hemi) can be turned into RX-3\'s and 616\'s to RX-2\'s the same way.

If I was to bid on it I would most definitely ask for a pic of the chassis number to ensure it\'s the real deal (even though these can be doctored too - unlikely though). The correct numbers to look for are mentioned in a previous post.

It just strikes me as odd that the seller hasn\'t posted a pic???

It looks like it was a red car originally (same colour as mine Mazda RH). I always get shifty with a re spray.

It\'s a cool car nonetheless.

If it\'s a converted car it\'s not worth as much in my opinion. But asking as the parts are all there to look like an rx4 then that\'s cool but if your totally not sure then email the guy.
