Title: Mixing Oil makes?
Post by: Tim Oldland on January 11, 2006, 01:13:27 PM
Bit of a stupid question this one.

I have Racing 76 10W-40 Mineral Oil in the FD at the mo, its been running on this stuff all its life, changed every 3k, but i can\'t get hold of any for a bit.

I know Castrol do a Mineral 10W-40, is it okay to add a litre of this to the Rex to top it up or is it not wise to mix the two?

Cheers

Give the nice and helpful people at OPIE oils a call.

I\'d mix mineral in my daily but not if I owned something like yours.

Gave the Opie chaps a call, and they said its fine to top it up with a bit of Castrol GTX 10W-40 Mineral, as its all the same stuff, just with different additives in it.

Reassuring to know!

You can mix like for like, and also some fully syns will mix, generally its veg oil like castrol R that wont mix

I\'m a bit surprised by the response; I thought that mixing different brands of oil was generally to be avoided, due to the potential incompatibility between the additive packages :(
