i have a rebuild kit from them, which i may sell if i jaguar sells on ebay. my engine needs lots of new parts so may look at buying an engine from a written off car with a recent rebuild/warranty. i think it cost me about £800 with the gasket kit, but would be looking to get my money back as it is unopened

Dean, depending on finances in the next few months I might be interested in buying that kit off you. Engine hasn\'t gone but I want to rebuild mine at the end of show season anyways...assuming it hasn\'t already gone ;)

I may need a kit also, which kit is recommended though? i think there is 3 choices, last thing id wanna do is ordered the less complete kit, then find out i need more bits, and have to pay Mazda uk prices for any bits i need.

On the engine kit front. I have my engine in peices. I am in nogociations at the moment for the overhaul kits, which would include for me anyway,   side seals, Rotor Kit , Includes: Apex Seals, Apex Seal Springs, Solid Corner Seals, Corner Seal Springs, Side Seal Springs ,Viton Oil Rings, Pilot Bearing and Seal ,Front & Rear Main Seals,Thermal Pellet . full gasket kit ,this seems to be different in price for different models.  I have tried in this country for all these parts, but people are not that helpful, or intrealaistic with prices, So I have had to look else where.  at the moment prices for the most expensive engine, REW or so it seems for all the parts above is around £700, obviously cheaper for the lesser engines. I am still on with this at the moment, but if others think this is good value, maybe i can better this with a larger order. let me know your thoughts and i will see what i can do...

I looked at theirs, But they do not include the gaskets for the rebuild, The manifold and turbo gaskets etc are what puts the price up between the different engines, if you price them from Mazda they are a fortune. The kits I am trying to get hold of have all of these in the engine gasket set. I did notice that the aviation kits did come with the timing chain and thrust bearings. i must look into that as well and check the overall price.   Did you have a price from aviation on a complete engine gasket set, I did not see it displayed on their site.  I will look again

It was a while ago that I looked.  From memory they offer a basic or a master kit and then they also do a gasket kit if the engine is going in a car.  Havn\'t really done much looking into other suppliers - will have to have a look soon!

I think that you will find Mazda are not too bad price wise, as compared to when all duty is paid on another makers kit from the states.
The Rotary Aviation kits have there own design apex seals and water seals,so don\'t expect to get Mazda ones.
The "Timing Chain" is actually the oil pump chain, rotaries do not have a timing chain.

Thanks carl, I did realise that after I had typed it, not sure what the timing chain would run on one of these. Maybe the clock??? The trouble is in this country is getting mazda to price all the parts up, I have tried two in my area, I use them quite a lot for other models and are usually very helpful, but this time their answer was, We have never split an engine, or seen inside one, or had to get any parts, why don\'t you just get a new engine.... mmmmmmmm thats helpful then... sort of defeats the idea.  the other were way out on prices, even with discount..  so we keep trying.  What sort of money do you sell the kits for Carl???

The trouble is that all rebuilds can be different.
Whereas I would change a certain amount of parts as a matter of course so as to enable a certain high standard of build,if you were to do the job privately you could possibly use less parts.
Have you pulled your engine out?If so do you know what parts you need?

yes The engine is out now on the stand,  Oil pump is fine, but the chain has too much slack, (1"1/2)  I have not actually had time to get into the engine, but it does look as if it has been apart before as their are numbers painted on all the bolts behind the flywheel. I think as a matter of course the all the seals and springs thrust bearings and ofcourse correct size spacers to be replaced. I will also require a full gasket set.  This is what i am pricing up at the moment, and anything else will be added to the list as it comes along.  Would not like to speculate as to the condition of the rotors, internals or housings at this point.. But from minimal inspection through the exhaust ports things look to be in order.  maybe it would be worth giving you a call after I have got it completely stripped down.....

If you are going to buy one of Bruces Kits his site is //www.rotaryresources.com or East coast Rotary.

Rotary Aviation and Atkins are Third Party so you may find an extra few $ on, Plus you may get a better deal of Bruce if a Group buy was aranged with him??
