Title: fc project track car
Post by: stuart wizy on January 08, 2006, 07:23:13 PM
got myself a 90 fc of ebay with blown motor
going to take it out and rebuild it with street port
I want 300 rwhp so im thinking of using t35 roller bearing turbo
cheap large ic of ebay from the states. (fitted in nose)
does the fd plenum fit on so i can do away with air flow meter, is the crank angle sensor the same as the fd and what other engine sensors do i need to run apexi  power fc?
and as anyone stripped out an fc including dash and sound proofing? if so what do they weigh in at
i got to scared taking my fd on track days last year, to many brown underpant moments so this is cheap play car that if i prang dont matter!
Ive got
fd engine loom
std fd ecu
walbro 255 pump
couple of std secondary injectors

any info and tips will be much appreciated

Well there is more than one way to do this, I sugest you spend an Hour Searching first and decide which way you want to go.

If you where lucky enough to come across a complete Engine and Engine Loom from an FD. You could rebuild it and replace the center plate with a T2 Plate. Then you can use the T2 Engine mounts. Or Custom make the Engine mount but they are both not easy to do and requires some thinking about before attempting.

The thing that makes the FD engine Swap more suited to you is that you would not realy need to do a lot to the stock engine to make it produce 300rwhp, if you then got a single Turbo that goal would be even easyer.

BUT!!! At the same time that Hp is easly achivable from a T2 engine? but you would have to fit a Single turbo and the Power fc would be more expencive to fit to a T2 wiring harness (the T2 wiring harness is also alot older and more prone to Insulation Hardening) you would be better going the Microtech route if you stick with the T2 Engine and loom.

Happy reading....

what is the difference between fc and fd motor mate, is there a difference in cubic capacity or difference in wall thicknesses on housings?
geof at re worx said is quite simple to wire power fc into turbo 2, the only thing im not to sure about are what engine sensors are required ie knock sensor air temp, etc
idealy i would like to use the original lump to keep the cost down
what sort of power can the fc block take?
and how does the car handle out on the track compared to its newer brother fd?
sorry for all the questions guys!!
I wanna make the car as light as possible by making any heavy parts on the car out of ali, I work in a machine shop with all cnc laithes milling machines grinders etc,
is it worth milling rotor tips out for 3mm tips and does anyone know the best way to dowel the plates and housings together and what size dowels are used?

i reckon a very light fc with 300rwhp could be a handy tool on track,
my fds 280 rwhp and kept up with a ex works touring car for 2 laps on ty croes last year! this car isnt stripped with std trim!

Well on the track, Out of the box a t2 will never handle as well as an FD, The T2 is more like the Drift RX.

But saying that if you spend some cash on some nice suspension and setting it up then its not going to be to far off the FD.

The secret is get as much weight out of it as you can, and get the suspension set up by someone that knows what there doing.

As for the Power FC on a T2 Harness, I\'m sure its not too hard to do. But it would seem daft to build a powerfull motor and use a good EMS and then use 15 year old wiring?

true
Im gonna snip all wires 12" long from my fd loom plug and wire from their
as far as i no theres only about 5 sensors to run
engine speed, crank angle pos, map sensor, throttle possition, lambda, needed, thats why i think i need the fd plenum for these extra sensors,
then your wires going out to coils and injectors

So have you decided to go the FD engine route?

If you pull the T2 engine out you can just unplug the loom from the EMS and the harness will come out with the engine. There for it may be easyer to use the FD loom and mod the Injector/Coil plugs instead? This way the Plug on the EMS end of the loom will not need to be changed so the Power FC will plug without messing about?
