Title: What to do!
Post by: Jovic82 on January 08, 2006, 02:19:32 PM
i have Totally stripped down an engine block which had failed from coolant/oil leak and have all the rotors back together(side seals in appropriate place etc) but as i was dissasembling the block i lost the position on where the existing apex seals (in good condition) where placed. Now i know that i have to get them back in the correct order as they are "worn in" to there appropriate Rotor housing. Rotor housings seem to be in good condition.

So what do i do? If i reuse the apex seals i will have to install them in any order, will i have very low compression?
or do i just buy all new seals (Oem or Rotary aviation?) and new rotor housings to ensure i get correct breaking in and higher compression all round?
I am thinking i will go down the latter route which is a lot more expensive but just wondered what your thoughts on the problem are?

Thanks
Nick

I think while you have everything open it would be better to get the newer seals as otherwise its always gonna be at the back of your mind about how long the current seals will last.

Get it all done now and will be better off in the long run Nick.

do it once, and do it RIGHT..in other words-use new seals. If i was doing it, i would get a pro to check all the tolerances and housings.

yeah carl has very kindly offered to check out everything for me in the near future.

Will def go for new Mazda/rotary aviaiton seals i think. Which are better though?

also shall i go for new housings aswell? more expensive i know but it will it give me a significantly higher compresion?

Cheers
Nick
