I am sure i am not alone in thinking the inside of an FD is awash with cheap plastics and niggly little noises from all the bits that don\'t quite fit and vibrate against each other. Although this is a minor thing compared to the car as a whole and you do forget about it when you hit the loud pedal, i was wondering what everyone has done to make theres a better place to be. Don\'t get me wrong i think the design of the interior is great, everything is just about in the right place it just needs improving.
Pics would be good too.
i think the whole car is a bag of bolts cant blve it was 35000 new
Yea I agree, but now we have all got quite cheep toys which is a bonus!!!
I am thinking of taking off all the dash panels and centre console panels and painting them to a high quality finish, not sure on colour yet. Next is the gear nob and gater - find some better quality replacements. I\'m then going to take a friend in the car for them to record where all the noises are coming from so i can then see why a rectify this. Not sure about the door panels though? anypne got after market ones?
when i can afford it am planning to retrim poss in cream leather it tends to creak less than plastic and when it does creak it will be mmmnnn nice quality leather creak and not cheap plastic creak :cool

Mazda actually slashed the price of the RX-7 to compete with the new Porsche. It was reduced by about £5,000 - and they where even forced to compensate people who had paid top wack!
And I have those annoying noises in mine - they dont always come from the passanger seat! :p
I\'m liking the leather idea! Although if you want a proper loud pedal - lose all the interior panels!! Then it gets very noisy, you\'ll have to wear ear defenders going to shows!!
I\'m gonna cover my entire car in leather, in fact im gonna do a whole TV series for it. I shall call it : Gimp my Ride :spank
My car makes no noise. Problem is, most of the fd\'s are getting on in terms of usage.
My circuit fd on the other hand is fully stripped. With the loud sound of the fuel pump in the background and excessive noise. Feels like back to flight school when we used headsets to speak with the passenger. ;)
Look at the Scoot car\'s dash for some inspiration. Very nicely done and I suspect, it cant be all that expensive to do either. Very similar to what rx7veilside has in mind. Ben do you have a pic by any chance as I cant find any.
No probs Ben. Found a pic, could be better.
Lush Suede... I like. :)
There\'s a special anti squeak wax available. Mercedes Benz supply it to their dealers in UK. Part number is: 000-989-01-60-01. Not sure you can order it over the counter, but may be worth a try. Around £100 a pot.
Not cheap, but it lasts a long time and gets rid of interior squeaks. Just apply it to any area where one part meets another, then wipe off once dried, before re-fitting.
We also supply carbon leather gear lever gaiters. See //www.neweraparts.com
Thanks guys, gonna start with the easier bits like painting the dash and then see what i can do with the rest. As the car is silver i will probably go for a brush aluminium look.
I remember seeing this one on one of the threads. It\'s the finish I wanted but I ended up doing very dark grey. Make sure you give the lacquer a few days to dry or you\'ll end up with finger prints while wrestling it back into that car.

That does look nice, i\'ll see how close i can get to that finish.
I agree the standard interior is a a bit bland, I went this way.
Did you get the seats re-trimmed?
That looks very nice, i dont know if i dare try it, i\'m spraying a spoiler up at the mo, and its hard work.
I had a the full leather two tone done including the steering wheel at 1k. I thought that was pretty good.
The steering wheel alone was £200 due to all the hand stitching.
John
I had some squeaks and got rid of them by using the sticky backed foam that you use for insulation, it comes in strips which you can apply where the plastics overlay one-another. I\'m still looking into a carbon interior but it\'s the price that keeps putting me off!! The Scoot interior is nice, maybe I\'ll keep the carbon bits I\'ve done and finish the rest in alcantara - anybody know a reasonable place for re-trims, near Essex if possible?
carisma are in essex not sure about price but quality i have heard is superb
special anti squeak wax for cheap : petroleum jelly! Pull the squeaking surfaces, aplly pj where needed, reinstall, and you are good to go(just dont leave the car to the sun :-).

i plan on sound proofing mine when i get my electrical career going. Its not too expensive and apparently makes loads of difference by cutting out road noise and keeping the audio where you want it and not loosing it through the metal. The material im going to use is called fatmat. A bloke is selling it on ebay, but you can get it quite a bit cheaper from the states which is what im gonna do.
Vaseline is a very bad idea as all dirt will stick to it
I have used in the past Wet Silicon Sprey with very good results...you don\'t even hav e to separate parts...also it is not sticky and antistatic so it dust does not stick to it
However, be careful, it is a very good conductor henve avoid electricals...
BUT BUT BUT
All this is only temporary...I stripped my car down for a number of reasons (put insulation for heat generated from tranny, fixed dashborad & painted black etc.)
...I put it back toguether much better...squeaks and rattles gone !!!
The reason why the plastics are so rackety is because Mazda wanted to save weight everywhere...the FD is an amazing driving machine and we are very lucky to be able to won one...
