Title: is the air pump serviceable
Post by: RobbieRX-7 on January 03, 2006, 06:57:06 PM
i think mine is shagged. The center is not spinning at any rev range and the engine idles lumpy and erratic. Car is completley standard and i do intend removing the cat when i can afford a pfc, but for now i just wanna know if the air pump can be taken apart and repaired? cheers fellas

The clutch on mine doesn\'t work either Robbie, but Clive said not to worry it\'s for emmisions only, but mine runs fine,

It makes for a good door stop, or a very large paperweight ;)

Someone will probably give you an air pump, they\'re expendable!

Robbie, the clutch on  mine is not getting a signal to engage it, it may not be the airpump it\'s self but the fact that whatever signals it to engage the clutch has failed like mine, but i have yet to trace the two wires that send voltage to the electro-magnetic clutch, as i said mine runs very well without it, so may be something else on yours to cause it to run rough,
cheers Bob

The air pup also prolongs the life of the cat!! as at low RPM (below 3K) it pumps cold air into it to speed up the gas conversion process, which in turn cools the cat intunaly! With out the air pump working you could find the cat will overheat and the inturnals will crumble and block the exhaust, creating back pressure (but only after a long period of time)!!
