Hi all.
I\'m looking for a Good Insurance Company that i\'m not going to get spanked with as i\'ll be insuring a Jap Import Fd?
I don\'t know allot about Insurance, I\'ve been told that because the Fd i\'m getting is a 92 (over 10 years old) and i don\'t do allot of miles a year (under 3k) its possible to get a Classic Policy?
Is this right? and would i save anything doing it this way?
Cheers
Chris
How old are you? i\'m with AON (over 25\'s) and mine is £500 on a year classic policy limited to 6k miles.
I\'m 30. How many years no claims is that with? I\'ve just read that some Classic Policys have to be used as a second car (Ie. You must have another car insured). This would mess up the idea becouse i live 200 yards from work and walk in every day so having a car to go to work would be daft?.
Chris
That is with the RX being a 2nd car, the majority of classic policies will stipulate this. When I had my first FD i bought a heap from ebay for a fiver and stuck it on my drive to make sure the RX was a second car.
Im only 21 dont have any ncb and got a quote of about £1100 from Admiral so they might be worth a look.
Ant - sorry to burst your bubble mate but that quote would no way on this planet be for an FD.
cheers
Gareth
It was mate, that is as a second car insured with them and with having two other experianced drivers on the policy as named drivers. I know its a mega insurance quote but even before that quote with it as a second car and the other drivers they still quoted me £1700 which i though was excellent for my age and lack of ncb.
Grizzly - you could give this company a try, myself and some other\'s who\'ve tried them came up trumps.
I\'ve got my FD with them which is a second car but it\'s not a classic policy. Limited mileage and insured for I think 5 track days per year.
Egger Lawson 0115 9415255 option 4, 2, speak to Steve, tell him Gareth from Melton Mowbray sent you.
Also may be worth a try are:
Hoddesdon Insurance Consultants 0845 121 2212
speak to Martin. Seems to know his stuff.
Good luck and let us know how you get on.
cheers

If it is all spot on then :cool but it does sound to good to be true. My first FD cost me £1600\'s fully comp as a second car, 5000 miles with 5 years NCB on it at an age of 24. That was with CAT 1, tracker and garaged in low risk area.
I would check that they do not have the car listed as 2354cc as if so they have quoted you on an FC not an FD even though the year of manufacture may be correct. I\'ve come across amazing quotes before to then discover this.
cheers

I know it is a great quote, its limited to 5000 miles social only. Second car as i said with my dad insured on it in a low risk area in Leicester. I just checked it cos its an online quote and it is £1150.71 fully comp (it is a 10 month bonus accelerator though) but if i could afford an fd that is the policy i would go for.
My 2nd car was with Admiral on a 10 month bonus accelerator as I wanted to get my NCB up on the 2nd car as my 5 years is tied to the RX.
I tried them for the RX and they wouldn\'t quote. I can\'t remember the reason they gave, think they couldn\'t find an RX on the system that matched mine. I.E a bog standard UK one!?!
Does it say the engine cc size on the quote?
cheers
Gareth
yeah: \'MAZDA RX7 TURBO COUPE 2616cc 1992----- 1992\'
pasted directly from the quote
Ant
Elephant, just renewed mine for £596. thats 4k miles a year, main car insurance too. Im 26 (as of yesterday) with 4 yrs NCB and 6 points on the license
moved to the insurance section
I just got mine through Adrian Flux. £780 fully comp including breakdown on condition it has a cat 2 immobilisor. It\'s for a 94 FD, I\'m 28 with 3 yrs no claims and no points/claims etc.
Cheers guys i\'ll have a ring round and see what i come up with.
BTW Sorry Mike i didn\'t know there was an Insurance section.

not sure how the hell you got that quote but i would be accepting andpaying for that straight away, 1100 at 21 with no ncb?
this is for a fully comp insurance yes?
with about 3000 with my parents on the policy (experienced drivers) being used as a second car, cat 1 immob, garaged, 8000 miles, 2 years ncb, 4 years driving at 21.
just went to admiral again and with 3000 miles with the above, its 1486 tpft and 2238 comprehensive. elephant was about 2000 fully comp iirc.
It is for fully comp yeah. You said its as a second car but is the first one insured with Admiral as well? Even when i phoned them up my insurance quote was cheaper than £2238 & I would accept and pay for it straight away if i could afford an FD. Not yet but i think its a good new years resolution though, to have an FD by the end of \'06.
I hate to say this, but have you checked to see if they are doing a 2.6 and a import? i\'m 36, woman, been driving 17 years no ncd cos there on my other car, my hubby is 25, ( like um young) they told me for an import you have to be 25+ for a quote, now bearing in mind i\'m the main driver and the insurance is in my name.
1137.00 fully comp, so your quote is cheaper than mine? my hubby couldnt get insurance without me cos they wouldnt touch him, cos they said hes only 25
i know its a really good insurance quote but there are other things involved like the area and your occupation.
I dont work and my hubby works for network rail (train man) live in a small town, cant really get any better, make sure its an import, some quotes i got were for 2.4 and not an import then it was 596.00, makes a great deal on the price for an import, and i rang everywhere, (spent 3 days ringing) A Quote being the cheapest and then they messed up and papers came out saying 2.4, but the changed it to 2.6 at no cost to us as we had paid in full. just be careful its a very very fast car, scares me, i\'m the one driving round at 30 lol
Cheers for the advise but i am sure its for a \'2600\' fd. Don\'t worry i will be taking it easy when i do get one as i know i won\'t be getting another if i stack it. I know its a big jump in power but i do have a 2.0 16v megane at the mo (i know 150 - 260bhp is a big jump) so at least im not going from a 1.1 fiesta into an fd.
I\'m with HSBC 97 type rs import main car kept on driveway no lilited mileage or classic £528.00p per year full no claims though :p
I went through A-Plan, they got me a quote of £695 with the mods declared and also unlimited mileage.
Although gotta update the list of mods soon so hopefully it wont be much more !!

Are you sure it\'s 6K miles? I\'m with AON on a classic policy limited to 5K miles and the broker (Chris Knott) told me this is the maximum offered (this is a sore point with me at the moment because I\'ve done 4700 miles with 3 months still to go!!!) Which broker did you go through? :xconfused

It\'s not just the jump in power but the transition from FWD to RWD neads a little more care in slippery conditions, but most of all it\'s the way the power is delivered and the way it handles....an FD just eats corners, the faster the better. And if you let the revs climb it just accelerates faster and faster and the grin on your face gets wider and wider. You can drive fast but also drive smoothly be very aware of road conditions and watch out for launch of second turbo at 4500 RPM. End of lecture!
taken on board and appreciated, i think im a pretty good driver (doesnt everyone) i don\'t think im the best ever though so i will take on board any info on driving the fd i can as i dont want to end up in a ditch a week after getting it.
cheers
