I\'m considering getting a 3rd gen rex next year and am thankful for all the hints and tips I\'ve read here :Thumbs-up Some of the things I\'ve picked up from mrc are :
rotaries can be expensive to run (not including fuel)
best to buy a rebuilt one and with some mods (cheaper in the long run)
get some rwd driving experience on the track as they can bite :2eek
I would like to do 3 or 4 track days to gain some experience. Can someone tell me what sort of wear and tear I can expect in terms of tyres, brakes, suspension etc and presuming I don\'t push it too hard, the sort of bill I can expect after each session?
what you are asking for can be very hard to give a figure for
it all depends on what mods you have on the car I.E big brake conversion
or even what pads you are using :3gears-rh
what suspensions you have and how old
but TBH if you have a good condition car with good brakes and tyres I very much doubt it will cost you much at all.
if i can afford it then anyone can LOLn
It can all depend on which track you go to. If you go to a tight twisty track then it can cost alot more in pads and tyres. I cooked my brake discs on isl of man, partly on the track, partly on the montain road :p
The more open tracks can put more strain on engine parts with increased speeds and engine temps.
Shaun
Thanks for that James.
What takes the biggest hit? How often do you go on the track and how long do your tyres last? I will only be doing 3 - 4k miles a year + 3 track days I suppose I want to know if I will have to fit new boots, pads etc after each track day or will they last longer? :3Confused
on mine pads were the worst problem
but if you have good pads like Hawk Blues or something you wont have any problem at all.
just keep and eye on your knock and air temps etc.
there is very little that you will need to replace unless it is already on its way out.
tyres last for ages . but this does depend on your driving style and aggression.
3-47 track days is not much. My recommendation is to not do too many laps at once and give your car some time to cool every so often by doing some slow laps without using the brakes.
NEVER LEAVE THE TRACK AFTER RACING THE CAR HARD>
always do a cool down laps otherwise your brakes will melt. and DONT PUT YOUR HANDBRAKE ON WHEN YOU COME IN THE PITS AS CHANCES ARE IT WONT COME OFF AGAIN. :Laugh
Tyres should manage a season no problem, unless you drive like a real loon!
Pads and discs likewise should last a long time, so long as they are not repeatedly overheated, which will cause them to wear more quickly.
I think you\'ll be pleasantly surprised how little these components wear :)

Thanks for the advice guys. Can you recommend any pads suitable for light track and road use?
The car I\'m interested in is a single turbo. Am i right in saying only Brands, Silverstone and Donnington have no noise restrictions?
not sure on noise restrictions.
hawk Blue pads are very good and much needed on a single turbo i imagine
MAX is the track guru really tho.
Not on stock brakes I\'m not!
I used to run Hawk HP+ (dust like mad but work well) on my old stock brakes, but I think the choice now is quite varied Hawk, Performance Friction amongst others.
The boys in the States reckon Hawk Blues are no good when cold (fair enough, for a track pad!) but this does mean they\'re not really suitable for road use, cos you\'ll never get them up to stopping temps around town.
If you\'re doing a track day to learn a bit about controlling the car, rather than to try and get your ARDS license, then you don\'t have to use the car that hard - if your brakes start fading or your tyres start marbling, just back off a bit. You don\'t HAVE to drive at ten tenths on a track day.
If tyres are supposed to last a whole season I must fall into that "loon" category :D
