Hi,
A few days ago my brake light came on and i noticed the clutch felt a diffrent anyway, I popped home from work today for lunch and on the way back to work I went to put it in first to pull away from traffic lights and the pedal just went straight down to the floor and I had no clutch left.
I am led to belive that this could be the clutch master cylinder how do I go about checking this and how hard is it to change this, I have seen some posts about this lately but I don\'t seem to be able to find them.
Also if it is how much and how quickly will I be able to fix this.
Alan
Yes mate sounds like CMC has gone. Easy job to do. disconect cmc fluid pipes in engine bay, into footwell on your back remove nuts and she pulls out. Up to you if you buy a new one or a new seal kit. I put a new one on as the old one was over ten years old, re-fit and bleed via the slave cyclinder left of the gearbox looking up under the car.hth. :wiggle
How do I tell if its gone then, is it the one next to the brake fluid resovoir?
As you look at the brake fluid res -- to it\'s right and attached to the firewall is the master cyclinder it has brake pipe coming out of it and a thicker black pipe. The test is to depress the clutch pedal if it stays down it\'s a seal gone. If it\'s the master, to check then get on your back into the footwell with torch and look up to where the cmc bolts come through, if there is fluid running/showing from that area or at the rear of the carpet underneath it then it is the cmc.
If it\'s the Slave, jack up front end ( axle stands please ) and remove the rubber cap that protects it --if there is fluid inside that then its the Slave thats gone.
Hope that all makes sence. :3Confused
It certainly does I see reworx have the clucth master cylinder but how much is a slave cylinder and how easy would it be to get hold of one,
al
Don\'t know mate, give Geff a ring in the morning. :wiggle
If you have fluid and no leaks, has the pedal "flopped to the floor and not does not do anything??
If so it could be that you have had the clutch thrust detach itself from the pressure plate ( hope not for you as the box has to come out to mend it)
Th fluid was low the other day when I topped it up so I would assum there is a leek in the system somewhere, if i pull they peddle back up a to the top by hand then I can get the clutch to work for a few pumps.
Under closer inspection today I have had a good look at the clutch mastercylinder (big black one behind the resovoir) and it seems to be bone dry there is also no fluid inside the car.
I have got under it (on axel stands :) ) and removed the gearbox shield and looked at the slave cylinder, am I right in thinking that its the one on the lowest point of the gearbox on the passanger side, anyway that is all dry and seems to still be sealed, altought some of the surrounding area is wet, taking a good look with the torch the fluid goes up quite a way.
Looking from the top of the engine bay there is a pipe that runs behind the plenum to a conector next to the oil filter this then joins to a bendy pipe that runs down to what appearts to be the clutch, this pipe is damp and the top and appears to have sprayed the surrounding area. Could this cause the problem? Is this the pipe that you would replace with a braided hose.
Thanks Alan

Hi Alan,
Looks like you have your problem found, and yes thats the flexy pipe that quite a few people replace with a braided hose.
