Title: Air filter for single turbo?
Post by: Welsh Dan on December 18, 2005, 08:08:52 PM
I\'ve been looking at getting a proper filter for my single turbo. Now, due to the heat, we thought about moving the filter further away from the turbo rather than putting it straight on the turbo itself.

The place that did the intercooler piping can get me a 4" mandrel bent 90 degree elbow, which I can attach to the turbo and then put a filter on the end of it (see the following pic, although MS paint isn\'t my strong point  :rollin ).

Presumably, as the filter is in the middle, there will be more air about it and it won\'t be resting on the hot water pipes. Also, I was thinking of getting a scoot style bonnet with the vent right at the front of it, which again would help.

Would this be ok? Finally, if it is, what filters do you recommend? Both Green and Pipercross do large enough filters that should flow enough air. The Green is a paperfilter though and the Pipercross is foam.

Any suggestions, or should I just slap the filter on the turbo?

Hia dan,
Firstly I\'d go K&N, bit more expensive but washable so it would save money in the long run!!
Also so I believe, the lower the inlet temp the better it is for the car so get it as close to cold air as poss!!!

Finaly: that\'s one nice set up, hope to see it if I pick up the down pipe!!!

I had a similar 90 degree bend on mine, then converted to straight on the turbo. No difference between the two.
