Title: cuts out on idle
Post by: BG7 on December 18, 2005, 06:55:30 PM
I\'ve recently had an Apexi Power FC fitted to my FD3, but since it\'s been installed the cars been cutting out when idleing, sometimes it will idle at about 850rpm for a couple of minutes then cut out and other times it cuts out as soon as it starts idling. Could this be something to do with the Power FC or something else? I\'ve contacted the tuner that mapped it and there supposed to be getting back to me, any ideas? Apart from that the car runs great :3gears-rh

are they a rotary tuner..the apexi on set up is supposed to be self learning but u still have to teach it as such to idle under different conditions ie lights on aircon on etc..they shld have been able to answer u straight away not get back to u i wld go back there and ask a few questions of them

Mine does exactly the same, my car had its apexi mapped by WGT and its been fine for over a year but now it idles at about 850 then starts to drop and then dies, im gonna try a plug change soon see if that sorts it out, though i have noticed that my AFR meter reads very very rich at idle now when before it always had a low reading at idle, dunno whats happened there, so it could be getting to much fuel at low revs and its fouling the plugs.

Nix - your\'s sounds like it needs a service and plug change.

The other one - i think you need to get it to a Rotary tuner to tune up correctly, self learning they are but there might be something a miss ? So try to get it seen to sooner rather than later.

Also check vac hoses to make sure there\'s not a leak somewhere, just incase  :wiggle

Cheers Gurj, got some plugs on order, ones that are in have been in for about 4k miles.
Why would it suddenly run rich at idle tho ??? its been mapped by WGT as i said before and the engines only done about 7k miles, can an apexi lose its map at all ?

possibly your oxygen sensor

I thought if you had an Apexi PFC then it cut out the O2 sensor ??? sure i read that somewhere on here, can anyone confirm this ? or does the O2 sensor still function along side the PFC

If you have a leak in metered air somewhere you\'ll run rich, and vac leaks are always the first thing to look for when you\'ve got idle problems...

Time to get the talcum powder out!

apexi does not use the oxygen sensor

.....if you turn off O2 feedback ;)

So what would happen if your O2 sensor is shagged and you had NOT turned it off on the Apexi ???

Then the car would "kangeroo" a bit on part throttle at low revs - eg driving at a steady 30 in 3rd - but not sure it would affect idle...

Better go check with the tuner and they should be able to answer you straight away
