Title: Battery Relocation
Post by: nikp on December 18, 2005, 12:54:25 PM
I want to move my battery to my boot. Can anyone tell me the best way in which to do it? And where did you get your battery tray from? Or did you have to get one fabricated?

u need something fabricated but pretty easy to do just mount the battery and secure it then run cable using the grommet in the nearside inner arch(remove the arch liner).use 0 gge for best results..if u have rear bins even better as mine is in one of them

Make sure you put a fuse inline as near to the battery as you can get it. A 63 Amp industrial fuse will do, if you dont it is a serious fire risk.

Who sells kits for this as I\'ve been meaning to do it for ages! Would like a bracing kit that you can bolt into the rear bin compartment - then just cut the bottom off one of the bins.

if u use a optima red top battery or similar dont worry about bracing as u have to cut the bin inside and can cut it so battery doesnt move at all

Ahh, I\'ve got a mini size battery due to the Apexi GT FMIC taking up all the space I guess I can do like you said, cheers!

I bought a kit off fleabay, complete with the braces, all the powerlead needed and the connections too. Cost about £50 delivered, which is expensive yes, but at least it includes everything.

Loads on ebay.com at the mo

I\'ve got Shy sorting this out for me at the moment.  As my Clifford alarm is a big drain on the battery I\'ve gone for a fairly heavy duty Gel battery.  The gel makes it les of a risk of leakage.  It\'ll be in a fibreglass caseing fully fixed in place.  Might be worth giving Clive a bell to see what their options are.

the smaller battery might struggle due to the extra distance.the optima is a fully sealed gel battery that can be mounted at any angle and when using the rear bins can be mounted without bolting as the fit is snug and no chance of moving..it also starts the car well which is allways a bonus

QuoteTo do it properly is a big job..

It shouldn\'t be a massive job: It should be a case of securing whatever battery tray/storage caddy to the floor of the boot. Easiest way to do this is to drill holes, and rivet in. Next the negative lead needs securing to the body work. Then a postive lead needs routing under the body, securing to secure positions and bolting to the positive lead in the engine bay. Relatively simple: my main issue was whether there was a kit available, or some such thing.

It is very time consuming..If you go ahead and do your own you will see what i mean..
I looked into getting some sort of kit but decided against it and bought all the parts separate..
How you can get a kit for £50 is beyond me as the 0 gauge cable was £8 per metre on its own.then the box was £50 etc etc etc..i cant give you a total price as i bought all my bits with a load of ICE..You could get away with smaller cable but the bigger the better..

My kit didn\'t have a box, as it just had the brackets and base plate which you attached to the floor.
