after taking the tank of and changing the pump and filter i manged to get some fuel trough, fixed a water leak with a new gasket and think i have the timing sorted (went from the notch on the pulley and lined up the marks on the distributer) after trying to get it started for a hour or so i did the usuall took the plugs out disconected the fuel pump and turned it over, when i reconected the fuel pump i had the same problem as before, the pumps working fine but no fuel just lots of gargaling, i can bet when i drop the fuel tank it will be fine again, has anyone else had a simular problem? or knows how to resove it, just worried if i ever run out of fuel i will never get it going
What fuel pump are you running ?What diameter fuel lines ?
its all standard stuff, i had everything to bits even the filter in the tank could find anything wrong put it back together and it worked fine, its like it needs priming every time. i have another series 1 im thinking about switch every thing over as the new one didnt have a engine when i got it but i know the other one was fine before the engine op, also still getting no oil presure when i crank it, could be a connection ive missed going to change the clocks to some that i know work
will give you some ideas in a mo..hold in there we will sort it
thanks its really starting to drive me crazy, thought the engine would be the last of my worries as it was working fine in the other car,
really apreciate your help

Hi Mark, is it possible that you have wires the wrong way round on the pump, its just that your saying your hearing gurgaling ?

the pump was working fine and i dropped the fuel line in a container with some fuel in it and it was blowing bubbles so thats fine, i have two pumps so i might connect the other one up also to see if that will draw it trough
Im back lets go......put at least 10 litres of fuel in the tank, connect up all fuel lines etc, disconnect your supply line at the carb, put in an empty container, switch on ignition, run pump until supply is clear of all air.Connect line to carb.Switch ign on,leave on for a few secs, switch off ign to see if float bowls in carb filled,if not, strip carb and check for prob,i.e needle and seat stuck etc.
What im trying to say is you have to work through the process of eliminating faults.i.e. pump works, fuel line not blocked, fuel to carb, fuel in carb, fuel in carb to motor. You have to do this...there is no shortcut.Should take 15 min max.
You wont get any oil pressure on cranking with your setup, when the motor fires you must have pressure within2 to 3 secs,if not shut the motor down.Start again and it should fine.If still no pressure check electric connections from sender to unit.
If you are very particular you can fill the motor via the oil filter stem.Takes time but you get the oil straight to the bits that need it most on start up.Very old school....never pressurise the sump to move the oil around in the motor...it does do damage, ask me.
i wil go trough the process again tommorow it has plenty of fuel, been reading up and once i get the fuel sorted (gonna try putting a extra fuel pump on just to pull it trough then it should be fine sure it just needs priming) i\'m gonna use the oil trick a small amount down the carbs i belive? hoping this will do the trick getting a little frustrated!
thanks for the advice i will of course keep you all posted

thanks again :cool hope to have fire in the hole tomorrow! :flamed
tank off again, i took the pick up out the tank and put a small tub of fuel under it, it picked up fine no blocks and returned ok, (without the intank filter) with the filter on it does pull it trough but struggles, the car was sat for a number of years i thinking it had fuel in it and has buggered the filter, i can find anything else wrong, i dare not put it back without one though, does anyone know if you can get the filters? i have another 7 i can pull the tank off but feel i could have a simular problem so i would rather replace it
thanks

On the 2 i have no in tank filter....i have a normal GUD filter outside the tank and another just before the carb, this keeps the fuel clean as ive had no probs yet...just to get the motor firing dont bother with the in tank filter unless it is a safety prob.
changed it with the one i had in the other tank (it was 10times worse than the one that was in there) it must have been the problem as i have fuel!!! just gonna try to get her going now.
ok i now have a problem with no spark on the L coil changed that but it seems to be the electrics, the Trailing coil is fine when i bridge the power across to the Leading they work but the wiring is diferent on my other car there is a yellow and green for each coil but on the new one there are two seperate yellow and greens for each coil, i also have two connection blocks with a yellow and green and black and white earth, looking at the wiring diagram these should be conected to a igniter? dont have that on my old car i do have plenty of bits but dont know what im looking for any clues?
thanks
