looks very nice and the pricelooks about right (IMO)
Even though it is a low mileage car, I think it goes without saying that you need to get a compression test done on the engine before you buy any rotary engined car. Not a total guarantee of a perfect engine but the best chance you have of avoiding a wrong \'un.
I didn\'t follow this advice, hence I bought a car and had to have it rebuilt 3 weeks later. It\'s not fun, trust me!

:)

Thanks dandan. Can any garage do a compression test???

What I have notice is the additional cost of buying a car straight from the land of the rising sun.

Full service
Apexi power FC and remap for uk fuel.
4 new tyres.
Alarm.

The price does mount up quickly.

But I really want an RX-7.

Where\'s that load application form.   ;)

Hi GMJ
It may be stating the obvious but, you have got some insurance qoutes haven\'t you.

It\'s also a buyers market, do you know how long its been on sale for.
If you\'ve fallen in love with it, offer him £800 less he can only say no.

this one is in england already right? you might be able to sort a deal on tyres when you buy it, jap rubber + english winter is a bad combination! the rest is pretty vital if you want the car to last as long as possible, crikey that sounds expensive even for a rex!

You may need to find a specialist to do the compression test, don\'t think it is a tool that is used for piston engines (?) have a look at the top of the page and find the nearest vendor to you.

Yeah if you can afford a rex without getting a loan, you have too much money! lol

I see they aslo have a Cosmo for sale.

That\'s pretty much a standard engine bay: Just had a metal air box, bits of plastic removed, and some silicone hose added where plastic pipes were before.

Some checks that experience has told me to make would be the wheel arch liners. check firstly that they\'re there. Also check that they haven\'t worn through anywhere. The wiring loom goes right over on the other side of the wheel arch liners, and can sometimes drop down, putting pressure on the arch liners, causing them to move into contact with the tyres. These then wear away and start wearing the wiring loom away: this in turn can cause electrical gremlins if you\'re unlucky.

Thank you everyone for your replys. They\'re much appreciated.

As far as insurance is concerned I\'ve had a good quote from A-Plan £595. That\'s on a limited milage of 6000.

I\'ve emailed the vendor about a compression test to see what he says.

The only problem with haggling is some of the money is coming from the car I own at the moment. Don\'t laugh. Vauxhall Astra 2.2SRi. It\'s a lovely car to drive but it\'s time to up grade.

Unfortunately, it seems some dealers won\'t accept my car as a part-ex because they only deal with jap sports cars etc.

Never mind. 6500 isn\'t a bad price.

It\'s a white 94 Type R2 :) I\'m well aware of things that need doing to it, but I enjoy that side of it just as much as driving so all is good.

Good luck with getting one you want!!!!

If you look at the picture on my link you can see the price is £7995.

So if he\'s dropped it already I doubt he\'s going to drop it much more.

Hi,

Me and my brother were looking at this when my brother was thinking of getting a 3rd gen aswel. This car came over without a CAT and was running rough. My brother told the guy to get a cat put back on it (which I think he has done). since then we went back to test drive it twice and both times it either wouldn\'t start or the 2nd turbo wouldn\'t kick in (probably just a hose, which I think it was). He told us it was over 300bhp until we let him know it was a 255bhp model (dont know what he told you). The work on this car was done by Carl so he may be able to give you more information on it. My brother could probably give you a bit more info on this as he went back quite a few times with a friend. I\'ll ask him to post tonight.

The people here dont know anything about RX-7\'s AT ALL so be careful.

Im not slagging anyone off. Just saying from our experience of going to see that car a while ago it wasn\'t in good condition.

My brother knows more than I do about the car so I\'ll let him post.

GMJ have you checked out the for sale section on this forum? Private sales are generally cheaper, plus almost all of the cars on here can be verified as good or bad by other members of the site.
Also some of the vendors on here sell cars if you want peace of mind of a warranty etc, and they wouldn\'t be advertising here if they weren\'t reputable companies who really know their Rex\'s.
I wish I had bought from this site, I might still be driving round in a rotary beast. :( sniff sniff.

GMJ

This is Christopher’s brother. I personally don\'t trust this guy. I don\'t know what he said to you but his Knowledge about rx\'s and how to mod them was way off.

The second turbo was not working but that’s common anyway. Normally it’s just a pipe that’s come off. But it was not the case he says.
He said he took it to Carl and fix it, but it broke again when I went back to see it. I went to see it 3 times but every time I went there was another problem.
Ok all garages get dogs time to time but his info was wrong as well. He said the car had a turbo back zorst with a stock ECU.  :Hammer

That black one was apparently 450 ish at the wheels and it\'s got the stock twins and intercooler. :xconfused

I spoke to a guy that bought one from him and he was told it was 300+ BHP but my mate\'s S-13 with 240BHP(fly) beat him in a straight line 60 to 140MPH.

This is just my personally opium other people might of bought reliable clean cars from him in the past.

Pete.

P.S.  Rx7 is 265BHP till 1993 and then all others are 290BHP acording to the salesman.

Yeah sorry mate, post in haste repent at leisure, was having a bit of a difficult day....
I did think that you being reasonable, but you might have taken what I put in the wrong way, so I changed it :)

@Pete: no not quite. Uk spec cars were 235bhp, early Jap cars were 255 then it increased to 280 but not until later than \'93

@GMJ: remember a rebuild might cost all up around £3k, not allowing for other problems

Pete.

I will change.

Hi mate,

Glad you have been warned. There are a lot of unhealthy FD\'s being brought over to the UK and for those that choose with their heart over their mind often end up paying a lot of money rectifying the car after purchase.

Take your time finding one, have a look at a few. If possible, try to take someone from this forum with you who has owned an FD for a while. Having a car compression tested is all good. However, often it is not loss of compression which results in an engine rebuild. Rather, detonation or water seal failure. A car with good compression is still no guarantee.

We do have a few FD\'s for sale and may possibly take your car in part ex. Anything is available from stock to single turbo monsters. If you drop me a line on the below e mail, I can inform you of what there is.

Good luck,
Freddy

Just for completions sake I\'ve received an email from the guy selling the RX-7.

And here it is.

"There is nothing wrong with our rx7 as we have had one of the top people in the country ( CARL HAYWARD OF HAYWARD ROTARYS) go right threw it and he said it was really good so seams like you have been given false information."

So there you go.
