Title: Another newbie question
Post by: strange_days_uk on December 15, 2005, 10:23:16 AM
Hello again, I will probably be blogging this bb for the next few weeks, again I am grateful for all your help.  Pictures of my FD will be up sometime after this weekend.

Right, I want to replace my steering wheel because the leather has done that horrible scrubby thing, and I don\'t particularly like the standard one anyway.  Can I replace it with any old aftermarket steering wheel, these for instance,

And if I do, will the airbag light come on and be annoying ?

Many thanks, Simon..  (Better get back to work now  :Typing )

In theory yes, you will however need to get the correct boss to fit the car.

A slightly dunce-like question here, but what is the boss ?

Thanks..

the boss is the bit that joins the steering wheel to the steering column, if you directly replaced the airbag one with a (momo for example) wheel, it would sit about 4 inches too far away from you cos the airbag wheel has a lot of depth and aftermarket wheels are basically flat.
Thats how i understood it anyway. :)

Basically the bos is the adapter that fits between your steering wheel and the car, these are normally specific to the car or atleast make.
