As above but mechanical or electronic guages???? They both have sensors but electronic is converted from an actual reading to an electriacl reading. Mechanical reading is just taken from the sauce temp/pressure?
but what better and more accurate?
I will say that electronic can be run over a longer distance. I bought a mech. temp and could not fit it as it was not long enough.
i see where as if electronic you can extend the cables, but are they more accurate?
they only need to be accurate enough for you to get an indication of the engines state at a glance. The advantage of electrical gauges is that the hot/flamable/hazzardous stuff stays where it is and not piped directly to the back of a gauge :) its not nice when they leak (been there done that)
this is very true, the leaking worry, last think you want is fuel and oil all over your feet!!! :xconfused
I have an electronic temperature gauge, but a mechanical boost gauge. It\'s also easier to install a mechanical gauge. I also prefer the mechanical boost gauge as it doesn\'t rely on sensors that could fail.
I\'ve always preferd the mechanical guages!!! The reason is that the guage shows exactly what is going on with what your taking a reading from. rather than (not a guestemate) but not a 100% true reading. Besides which if you fit them properly you will never have a problem with leaky fluids!! every car I have owned has always had mechanical guages and I\'ve only had 1 insedent. only because I forgot to titen the union on the guage (dumb ass)!!!

I know the mechanicl ones are cheaper than the electronic but i don\'t know what to go for.......
Basically i\'m after
bosst, fuel and oil pressure
water, oil and exhaust temp
I\'m contemplating getting rid of mine, i have 6 of them, boost, oil temp, pressure, pyrometer, air/fuel, and another that i can\'t remember, I can\'t say i\'ve ever looked, for a start my shifter gets in the way of \'em unless i lean forward, by which point i\'ll be half way across a field dodging cows, secondly most of the stuffs on the commander, boost controller or dash. I\'ll have a think and maybe we can come to some sort of deal (and you can help remove them :) )
cool well drop me a line at jm-garage@hotmail.com that would be great. What size are they 52 or 60mm and what make?
cheers

The mechanical water, oil & exhaust temp usualy use a murcury capilary (like a normal thermomiter & we all know how long they work for........... A long time)
Boost is only an air pipe to the inlet manifold!
Fuel & oil pressure you get petrol & oil to the guage itself, but installed correctly you will have no problems!
Hope this helps,

Hi,
They\'re 52mm Autometer ones.
Boost
A/F
Pyrometer (1" scratch on plastic)
Oil Pressure
Oil Temp
Fuel Pressure
all pipes and leads.
I\'ll upload a pic of them and send you the link and i\'ll have a look around see what they\'re second hand value is.
Electronic one have the added bonus of being able to have a peak hold and warn function, sometimes it\'s not safe to be staring at your meters. And if you like to go drag racing you cant be looking at the dials all the time so once the run is over, flick the peak switch and you can see how she is holding together.
Like wedgiekray said, most of what you need is on the commander anyway.
Yeah i was thinking about the peak hold options in the electronic ones does seem like a useful plus
I\'ve never used any of the peak hold things on my electronic water temp gauge - did use the warn function a while back, which made me realise that it could be a litte useful at least!
Ive just bought electronic boost, oil and water, auto gauge ones shipped from japan, 65 quid all in, i dont fancy fitting them myself so paying another 100 quid to have them fitted. Ive got oil and water fitted now but they packed up working as the car was shipped in.... how typical is that.....
