Title: water from the intake manifold?
Post by: martinFD on December 12, 2005, 01:57:02 PM
Hi guys,

More issues after the new engine went in. I have to keep topping up the coolant as there appears to be a leak under the intake manifold. I can\'t quite see where it\'s coming from without taking the manifold off, which is the next job.

I\'m just wondering if any coolant runs through the intake manifold?? Perhaps my gasket is gone??

I can see coolant dripping off the fuel rail, but can\'t see how it is getting to the fuel rail. (It\'s definately coolant rather than fuel, I tasted it).

There is a lot of coolant sitting on top of the engine, and I\'m not sure if the steam from this is condensing on the fuel rail. It\'s possible I guess.

Can\'t see any leaks from hoses around the area. It only leaks when the coolant is hot (and under pressure I guess), and loses about half a litre of coolant on to the engine and tarmac each time I turn the motor off.

Where was the engine done? take it back get who ever did it to sort it. If it wasn\'t doing it before it shouldn\'t be doing it now

There is a coolant line that goes to the upper intake manifold - it\'s designed, like many cars, to stop the intake from freezing up. If you remove the intake manifold it should be quite obvious which pipe it is.

There are a couple of rubber water pipes that are connected to the underside of the throttle body. dead easy to get at when you remove the TB, just do it carefully and replace with Mazda pipes only a couple of beer tokens. Only use the Mazda ones as I think 1 or both are preformed so that the water flow is not obstructed by getting kinked when you refit the TB. Make sure you replace the spring clip pipe clamps with Jub/Clips and clean up the male pipe ends. Should sort it out mate. :WaveBye

I had it done by a friend of mine. He has offered to look at it for me, but if it\'s a simply fix I would rather do it myself.

Cheers

Excellent, will get that checked out. Sounds like the culprit :)

Thanks guys, it was the water pipe at the back as suggested.  Another problem fixed!! :)

Glad to hear that\'s sorted: what was the exact issue with it?

Cheers, the pipe was split right at the base where is connects to the block. Also I\'ve changed the pipe clamp to a jubilee style clamp.  Will probably do that on all of them!
