I\'ve just pulled out my seat to see if I can work out how to get it to go further back. It looks like it was originally designed to go back another 2 inches or so, there\'s even holes for the locking forks to engage further back than the rearmost position. However, something inside causes it to stop hard. Has anyone taken the sliders apart? Can anyone describe where the bit is / what it looks like which prevents the seat going further back? Anyone got any photos?
Thanks, :)
This isnt the reply you\'re looking for but if you\'re sitting uncomfortably because youre too tall its worth noting that theres a tonne of foam under the carpet by the pedals, it\'s about 2 to 3 inches thick, you can just lift the carpet and cut away some of the foam so your heel is lower down, removing the dead pedal also helps so you can stretch out your left leg, it\'s only 2 or 3 screws. There is a bump in the middle under the brake pedal back to about where your knee is, its welded in, so the carpet wont be completely flat after removing the foam and if you have smallish feet the bump may get in the way of you hitting the brakes. I\'m size 10 and its fine but took some getting used to at first.
Thanks for the help, I remember how important foot space is from my kayaking days :)
There is a way of doing it you need to drill out some of the rivets and bumps, alternatively the UK seat runners go back further. A
Anyway if you don\'t mind waiting a week, I got a seat runner I won on ebay delivered fri and some time this week I\'m going to take it appart and get it to go back all the way, if anyone is interested I will take photos and make up a little "how to" and post it up.
Alan
Excellent, that would be very useful! Thanks :)
yes please :)
I\'ve been trying to work out what\'s going on, it looks like the roller bearing is hitting the rivet just in front of the rear mounting hole. Maybe the answer is to grind out the two rear rivets, and weld the mounting bracket onto the rail instead of riveting it. It probably doesn\'t really need a stop as the forks take all the load when the seat is locked into position, the stops are really only to prevent it all falling apart during installation as far as I can make out!
you don\'t need to take them apart. Just drill out one of the rivets and the "bump" (IIRC) and It should go all the way back.
Thats what I\'ve been lead to belive, I remeber you posting pics for me mate when I was asking about this on FDUk, I\'ll do it this week (prob tomorrow) and post up a how to with pics.
Al
yep, it\'s pretty easy tbh. Just make sure you don\'t get any swarf in the rollers and keep the holes as clean and burr free as possible and you\'ll be fine.
Thought as much, I\'ll still take the photo\'s and do a little write up for the sake of others.
I look forward to teh photos; I\'m a bit confused from teh description as it seems like the rear mount plates will come off if I drill out the rivets!
Hi mate, have you done the mod yet? I\'m really interested in this as I hope to do it some time over the Christmas break. Cheers :)
Started to do it but got sidetracked with a knocking noise and ended up chaning a suspension bush, I\'m working pretty hard at the moment but should have it done by christmas eve if thats any good, I\'ll try and get it done before though.
No problems at all mate, look forward to seeing the photos. To be honest, I\'ve got loads of stuff to do to the car, at the moment I\'m taking advantage of having the seat out to get a dehumidifier in, and I\'ve still got to change the clutch master cylinder before Christmas...
So do I now mine died this afternoon, any ideas how much they are?

Clutch master cylinder? I paid £89 inc from Jimmys for a new one. He said he sometimes had reconditioned / secondhand ones, but to be honest I thought that by the time I spent an hour, and a litre or so of fluid sorting it out, I may as well get a new one and be done....
