Hiya chaps
just been out compression testing the engine on the cab ( fatal mistake )
ANYWAYS ....
im using a stock compression tester , and holding the one way value in with my finger whilst someone cranks it
it bouces round that quick how are you supposed to tell if you have problems ?
its not giving the best reading - prob 5-6 bar , but i cant clearly tell if i have a prob
now i CANT take it anywhere as there is no tax/mot/insurance on it
any suggestions how i can tell if she is just low on compression rather than something more serious !?!??
So how can you tell a low bouce from a good bounce ?
its not that clear , it bounces very quick and as the gauge is dropping its already on its way up again on the next compression cycle
i have a exhaust leak somewhere aswell - would this make a difference to compression readings ??
its the back rotor aswell - is this the one likely to fail ??
so stuck now with what to do
1 - fix leak , see what else is wrong
2 - break her for spares
3 - ebay it as a project
she is a 1988 Turbo Cab - there cant be that many in the UK and it would seem a shame - rock solid underneath - not a sign of rust on the chassis
i can get a s/hand engine for £450+vat+del .. is this a good idea or do i just cut my losses at this point
HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP
Stu :(
PS : coupe runs like a dream :)
FIx everything else, at the moment it still runs mate, so once the rest of it is up together you can decide wether to ebay it or not. (A car the only needs an engine is a better prospect than one that needs loads of work!)
Does it start?
Arent we supposed to check our readings when the engine is warm?
yeah it starts and runs - just got a leak somewhere
she doesnt like starting one she has been run - but i could walk outside now and she would fire first touch
