Title: Stock weight of FD ?
Post by: shaunwil on December 07, 2005, 03:07:52 PM
After a chat with kev York a while back on how heavy my fd is I finallly got round to getting the car on the scales. Theres been a few mods to the car for performance and it is 1240kg with standard interior, which works out at 240bhp/tonne ATBW :) , which for a stock twin isn\'t too bad !

Whats the lowest weight a fd can get to before going silly changing all the panels on the outside to carbon ??

Was that with a full tank of petrol, full fluids etc, no one in the car?  I think 1240kg is the weight I have seen elsewhere on the web as what they should weigh.  Its not heavy buy any means, but equally not that light, my MR2T was weighed at 1250kg with a full tank for example.  Out of interest did you get it done per axle i.e. front on one plate rear on another to see if the weight didtribution really is 50/50 ?

P.S weight saving best thing to do is loose air con on most cars A/C weighs about 25kg.  A single turbo would also loose some as long as its not dustbin sized :)

coilovers can also lop weight off and importantlynon-suspended weight so sharpening handling more so than weight loss else where.  Shouldn\'t be overly hard to get them down to 1150 kg like loosing your average sized passenger.

It was as instructed by kev, 1/ tank of fuel, All with fluids. I was out of the car. Could shave a few kg off by emptying the back compartments. It was done on a basic weighbridge at a local merchants yard, so no individual wheel weights.

The main performance mods i\'ve done is remove the air pump, the ac condenser and ac rad, swapped the downpipe over, decatted and full stainless system. Full tripple FMIC and custom piping. Mini Battery in the boot and diff brace. Few fuel mods too !

Plus im running on 17in alloys !

How heavy does the interior weigh ?? How heavy are the seats in the fd ?? Worth knowing when swapping over to buckets (if it ever happens).

My Cosmo\'s weighing in at 1500kg fully tanked up so i\'m not too far of FD weight now. I\'ve lost quite a bit of weight with the manual conversion and decatting. I would probably be down another 100 kg or so if i ditched the heavy electric seats from the front which i may do for the odd weekend if i take it down the strip next year.

i read somewhere that every 10kgs is 0.01 of the strip time ( or is it 100kgs ? )

i was wondering how you weighed it matey - very sneaky !! :)

its a cheap way to make it go faster though - make it lighter

loose the spare wheel and use tyre weld - that will save some :)

I was going to weigh the tyre and replace it with stereo kit :p

I weighed it at berry\'s in leyland. It costs £2.50 to have it done, so at least i can keep track on its progress. Was interested in what it was too !
