Is it safe to drive without my P/S belt on?
My P/S pump is fooked and I\'m getting it replaced on saturday (cheers Nick ;) ) but I\'ve got an hours drive to get it to where it\'s being done. Is it ok to do the drive without the P/S belt or shall I grin and bear the grinding noise?!?!
I would hazard an estimated guess that it is possible, but your steering will be very heavy. Try not to steer the wheels while stationary (That\'s good advice with or without power steering) as it puts more strain on components. While moving it shouldn\'t feel so heavy - especially at higher road speeds.
For an idea of how heavy it will be, try turning the steering wheel with the ignition on (So the steering lock doesn\'t lock your steering) but the engine not running. It\'s heavy!
Drives fine without the ps belt on. Just plan any tight manouvers as the wheel is well heavy. At speed you can\'t even tell.

Excellent!
Cheers for the responces guy\'s, got a new one on the way from rotary art along with me clutch master cylinder. What fun I\'m going to have this weekend!
I wouldn\'t fancy parallel parking with it but other than that you\'ll be just fine :)
I\'d never driven a proper none-ps car until last weekend, went to pull away and nearly took out the rear of my own car in the process. God bless er.. pumps.. etc.
It\'s a bit like driving an old bus, but manageable for the time being until I get it sorted on Saturday!
