The time is near.... this week infact. Now I dont want to leave the car with anyone, wont be impressed if I find its been taken for a spin :( Although Im guessing it needs a road test to test the brakes with it being RWD???
Now I was thinking of setting the rev limiter on the PFC to 3.5k revs or something so they cant go rassing around the block in it. can I do this? it\'ll still drive ok and they wont have a problem with test doing this either will they? anyone got any suggestions?
That\'s a good idea! Brilliant way top stop it being ragged!
I did that when running the engine in. Will be doing it when it goes in for clutch.
They do not need to take car out of garage for an MOT. Should put it on brake test machine...
Cheers

I thought that you needed the datalogic software and a laptop to do this. I could be wrong though. Since my PFC was set up I haven\'t played around with it too much, so I would be interested in finding out if you can do this with the commander. I too have the same concerns when taking the car to a garage or bodyshop place. When I went to collect my car after getting the bumper and spoiler put on, it wasn\'t ready 4 hours after they said it would be. I was totally paranoid that someone was out it in thrashing it (the rebuild had only been done a couple of months previously). I waited and waited, eventually I went for a wander round the back of the workshop and it was there with the boss cleaning it (as the valet guys were away for the day). Needless to say I was very relieved.

Just make a point of writting the mileage on the back of your hand (in front of someone) when dropping it off. I had a mate with a car having 100miles extra on it when he got it back, garage said they\'d used his car to get the parts!
Dead easy to alter rev limit on Commander.
Cheers Jon
Yeah changing the rev limit is EASY!!!! Done it a couple of times, dunno if it\'ll go as low as I want it too although a mate at work says when they do the emmissions test they\'ll need to raise the revs quite high?!?!?!? anyone confirm this?
My last car, Subaru Impreza had been ragged up and down the street by the bodyshop, the guy working there was bragging to his mate about it, just so happened his mate was my misses brother so it soon got back to me, Ive tried every garage in town apart from one now (and main dealers apart) and I either dont trust them or theyve tried to rip me off in the past.
Jon, I know most cars go on the brake machine but how\'d they do this with a RWD car? they cant reverse the car onto the rollers and drive because how would they test the front brakes?
They do front brakes 1st, then reverse rear wheels in. You dont put the car into drive IIRC. Then finish with hand brake (my NS was down a bit, but he said (winking) he\'d not seen it!!!)
If its a non-cat test, they dont need to rev engine, just do an idle test (again IIRC). I had to lower the inj duty on the Commander for it to pass (again MOT guy had no problem with this).

ok that sounds good then :) my car is a decatted 1994, so would they bother doing the rev test? thats the last thing to stand in my way
Thankfully i have a friend who does my mot on all my cars, so at least i don\'t have to worry too much about it. Usually if you are worried about it the easiest way is to book it in for a set time, turn up about 10mins before hand and then don\'t leave them while they do the test, then at least it gives you peice of mind. If it affects work then look for a garage that opens on a saturday morning and then your sorted.
Other than that if you have a boost controller just turn it right down to nothing, they cant rag it if it hasn\'t got any boost, plus change the pfc.
The rev test is usually done just to warm the car up to make sure that the cat is doing its job. Usually cars are designed to be more clean at motorway revs so they may rev it to get a better readings.
I scared my mate when he did the first gas test on my rotary, he\'d never seen readings like it, but he had never had a rotary on an mot :p

Dave, The garage i use never drive the car anyway, they have a machine to test the brakes, on rollers, thought this was how all garages did it,
good luck Bob
ok fair enough...
Does anyone know if I can turn the boost down using the PFC??? surely this would mean it overfuels though?
apologies for jumping on this thread.
my local MOT place uses rollers and they didn\'t mind me hanging around.
good job as they daren\'t drive the car onto the rollers cause my front splitter is sooooo low. (i had to do it)! Gulp
Now my question is regarding the ommisions test.
do i need a CAT? (L plate type R import) Ive got a PFC fitted
reason for asking is ive just put on a dragon decat mid pipe and i have since found out that the CAT that was fitted is somesort of Knightsport/HKS HI-Flo Cat Mid pipe.
If i don\'t need a CAT then this will be up for sale
Could anyone clarify (and if so would anyone make me an offer on it)?
Cheers
Dave,
I believe you can turn the boost down on the PFC (don\'t quote me on it as i\'m still learning myself)!
lol... OK wont quote you but it sounds good to me :) I\'ll go have a look tonight when I get in the car then...
Would also be interested in the CAT question as I think mines been decatted?
no need to touch boost as they will never see positive pressure by reving car while stationary..re emmissions blve up till 1995 requires only idle test not fast tast but very few stations are aware..without any cat u will fail even basic test without adjusting fuel via a commander..if u have a hi flow cat then put it on for the test then u wont have to worry or find a station that doesnt worry too much about emmissions test..this relates to a import only if u look in the mot station they do not list the rx7 on the big list of cars they have with the co and lambda settings
No, as boost drops so does the fuel.
QuoteDoes anyone know if I can turn the boost down using the PFC??? surely this would mean it overfuels though?
dave at thames valley motors reading do mots taking into consideration emmissions from rx7s, passed mine okay. Regardless I wouldn\'t consider taking the car for an MOT to a garage that wouldnt let me watch&wait.
