I\'ve just noticed a funny grinding noise coming from the front of the engine. It sounds like one of the pulleys (top right, front) is catching somewhere and there is a fine layer if metal flakes on everything near it. I\'m worried to move the car now I don\'t know if it\'s safe or not?
Any idea\'s?
can only say, see where the metal is coming from and check to see a pulley is not loose, or a bearing has gone allowing movement.
there\'s no movement in the pulley it self or the smaller one next to it. I have had a good look round the pulley\'s and there are no tell tale signs of rubbing anywhere. Will have to get her booked into the garage to check her over
I have a grinding noise ........... I reckon is is the bracket on the upper induction filter has sheared off and is vibrating against something.
It is an Apexi hard kit ......... anyone know is the metal used on the bracket weldable ?
James
metal flakes usually means the bearing has gone. try taking off the ps belt and running the engine briefly to see if the noise goes away.
Going to take the Air con belt off when I get home to see if it\'s that. Only seems to have started since I used the Aircon last night? :xconfused
I have a non-reconditioned pump if you find you need another. Personally I\'d remove it and use the windows :)
can you post a pic of the engine bay? so we can see if theres anything tell-tale wrong?
I\'ll get some pix up when I get in from work, I\'ll take the belts off and take some also.
Windows will be used if it is the A/C thats gone... :bandit
As commanded piccys. (sent to me by phone)
its defo the air con, does anyone know what length belt is required for a fd with no air con pulley??
nick
Carl took my aircon out, amongst other things, his usual craftsmans job.
While you are having things snipped you could loose your air pump and go for an under drive pulley.

Here\'s a few more piccies of the mess it\'s making. I can\'t take the belt off as my Mrs\' has taken me tools to work with her in me Leon! Typical really, the only time I need em!

Is it advisable to use the car when this is happening? Got a short journey to do tonight and no other way of getting there apart from me driving
I have seen this happen before, dead power steering pump due to the belt being adjusted to tight.
Make sure you power steering still has a level and you should be able to drive the car on a short journey till you get it fixed because if it dies fully it shouldn\'t do any harm to any other bits and you can chop the belt off and drive it home.
Hope this helps
p.s. Nick we have belts on the shelf if you want to remove the air con pump

clive,
good to chat earlier, thanks for the info mate.
Nick :D
Will, sorry no PS pump, but if you\'re going to replace the pump then you could look into salvaging an electric (hydraulic) ps pump instead and lose the belt.
Try a search in these forums if you\'re interested, antnicuk gave some info somewhere.
