Hi all,
Very kindly had Daverey round today to have a peek at my car, but although he knows a hell of a lot more than me, I think I need some proper expert help.
Several weeks of fumbling could be reduced to several hours of removal if I knew what I was doing, so I\'m asking if anyone who works with rotaries, or has removed an engine/drivetrain before can help me out?
I would be happy to pay an hourly rate for the help, but it has to be done at my house as i have no way of moving the car, especially since the front suspension came out!
Even if someone could come over for a cup of tea and a chat, tell me what order I should be doing things, what tools i need that i dont already have, basically where to start cos i\'m pretty stumped!
Pretty please with sugar on top, i\'ll gladly make it worth your while in terms of petrol money etc etc.
:):):):)
it doesnt matter really ur not putting it back in are you,u r braking it rite?
no care is needed so\'s not to damage the car,
just attack it buy taking every thing you can see off 1st,
Yeah but someone will want to put it back in their car at somepoint, so I can\'t go at it with a sledgehammer!
If you get faced with an engine bay in the state of mine, you will wish you had expert help too!
no no,not damage what ur taking out, engine bay work takes time,1 reson cos u dont want to damage the wings/bummper/paint work of the car, that dont matter to you thou,
I see what you are saying, it does give me a little extra confidence to pry stuff out, but I definately feel things would progress much better and with less damage if I had some expert help.
My number is 07779599604 and i live in Chandlers Ford near Southampton so if anyone can help me out they will be my new bestest friend!
Even anyone with more enthusiasm than knowledge is welcome to come skin their knuckles on my car!
just so u no my attack is get get stuck in,
its really easy to brake a car,you dont have to remember where all the bits go back,
its my sort of thing helping people with there cars, shame we dont live closer,
if ud like some help through a few phone calls id be happy to help, :D
Yeah, i\'d be willing to help too if i were only closer.

Dan what is the time limit you are working to bro.....cos I cant take it anymore that you are struggling like this.i.e. are you working to a time scale....cos if you can hold out for a lil, help will be on its way.... :guinness :yes
Well basically I would have had all the time in the world but Tricky mentioned my name to a friend, who has now agreed to buy my shell. He wanted to take it away tomorrow (tuesday) but i said it would take a miracle! I have provisionally said next tuesday but I can\'t see that happening either under my own steam!
I only really want to get the major sellable components out, I will leave a lot of bits and bobs on it as they will be more hassle than they are worth, and i don\'t have the inclination to store boxes full of stuff for years until someone wants some random tiny piece of pipe or wire!
So next tuesday is a sort of deadline, but if it\'s not ready by then, it\'s just tough s**t I suppose, I can\'t give him the shell until it\'s ready. :(
The car currently stands with almost entire interior removed (is the dash part that runs up to the windscreen glued in?) all removable body panels gone, exhaust off up to the last section which heads up between the turbo\'s, front hubs partially removed, need a \'fork\' to prise them off, air filter and pipes gone, rad and intercooler gone, alternator off, thats where it starts to slow own a bit.
I need serious help to remove the engine and drivetrain, the A/C is still attached and pressurised and I don\'t know how to remove that, have no idea what I might come up against with the diff and rear axles, AARRGGHHH!!!
I have the workshop manuals on cd so i can see sort of what i should be doing next, but when you come up against something that needs an SST there\'s not much I can do. Plus the diagrams aren\'t the clearest and they fail to explain exactly how to do certain things, like removing the top section of exhaust \'undo 4 bolts and remove\' has anyone tried to access these four bolts?! let alone try to get them to open!
Once again, any help is massively appreciated!

OPPPS!!
Sorry Dan- didn\'t mean to land you in it mate! :eek
I might be able to pop over Thursday daytime for a bit and lend a hand. Gotta do some Xmas shopping 1st thing, but then I\'m free, if thats any good to you!?
Not removed an engine before, but have some mechanical skills (work as a bike mechanic!)
You seem to be moving bits at a decent speed though!!
Rich
cheers rich, I don\'t blame you (much) lol
Thursday might be a bit difficult for me, i\'ve only just had a week off so not sure I can get another day so soon. Any chance you can wangle an evening/weekend?
If you happen to speak to simon (i think thats his name) make sure you let him know how hard I am trying to get it ready for him by next tuesday!!
(Reply from another thread)
Quote from: g11aryHave you striped out the front, rads , power steering etc, makes it easier to stand in there to work, clear the front as much as poss. With that out you could probably sit on floor in front of engine and get to the nuts you need to remove. Think it says remove after as with all the parts of the car together as normal it would be hard to get to. Get the wings off, everythng poss to get you nearer the engine.
i need a special tool to get the p/s pulley off which is slowing me down as i cant remove p/s or air con pumps without removing it. Haven\'t had time to make something up to do the job.
Wings are off but this does not aid access to engine as chassis is inside wings and does not come off!!
Also cannot stand in bay yet as I can\'t undo the oil cooler pipes, need a bigger adjustable spanner! nightmare.
I would like to get as much off as poss before lifting engine, as I don\'t have a lift and may have to use jack and poles. feel free to come down and help me!
I\'ll have a look at what I can do, things are happening left, right and centre at the mo....I\'ve got your number, if I free up enough time I\'ll call you!
Just to clear it up alittle, I don\'t know Simon personally- just happened to hear he was after a shell and you jumped to mind!!

Dan
did you get the steering rack off? I will try and make time this Saturday. If you can carry on getting bits off during the week. Can you measure the nuts, across flats, on the rear drive shafts and I will try to find a socket and a 3/4 drive ratchet. On e other thing have you got a trolley jack?
Dave.
Hi dave, rack is still in, i got distracted by the rear suspension!
I may be able to get that out, i need a big adjustable spanner if you have one for oil cooler pipes, what nut releases the driveshafts? is it the one on the centre of the hub? will get measurements asap.
Yes I do have a trolley jack. :)
Any Professional/semi experienced help still welcome and sought after!!
Dan
The nut is the one in the centre of the hub. Will call this weekend if I can get time.
Dave.
cheers dave,
I\'m going to look at a car someone from the forum is selling (not an RX7) on sat morning but any other time should be ok.
:)
To remove the P/S pump pully:
Get the belt for P/S and the A/C
Get 17mm/14mm (can\'t remember) socket on ratchet and keep close at hand
Fit belt to P/S pully only
pinch belt together at bottom of pully to make 8 shape
holding the belt rotate the P/S pully anti-clockwise, folding the pinched part under
holding the belt tightly to the pully, slip the other end of the 8 over the idler pully
turn P/S pully anti-clockwise to lock the belt in place
holding the pully with one hand so it doesn\'t unwrap the belt, undo nut with ratchet
cool ill try that! might involve rummaging to find the belt though, it was a little worn so i binned it! oops.
Thanks very much though, any more of these tips appreciated!! :)
Right i\'ve borrowed a 3/4 inch drive socket set, holding it is like being in land of the giants! It has sockets up to 46(!!)mm so that should sort the hubs and i have an adjustable spanner for the oil cooler pipes, hope the p/s pump trick works, and figure out how to access the exhaust bolts and i\'ll be away!
sunday is good for me now dave, or anyone else for that matter
:)
Leave the exhaust until last, disconect everything that attaches the engine to the shell/gearbox, then lift it up slightly with an engine crane and push it over to the passenger\'s side of the car. Stick a mallet or something similar between the engine and the driver\'s side suspension turret to stop the engine swinging back. You should now have all the access you need to undo the 4 downpipe nuts
Dan
next few days are out for me, will give you a call beginning of the week.
Dave

thanks matt, all i need now is an engine crane! was going to jack it up and then lift it our with poles across the wings.
Can anyone give me hints for disconnecting the engine/clutch/gearbox assembly please? step by step would be good, assume i know NOTHING about it. (starter motor and lower clutch bolts are already out.
:):)
No worries dave, thats cool
oil coolers off :) ps pump pulley off :) (Thanks matt) can\'t seem to convince the ps pump to come out now though, will take another look.
i have a massive socket for the rear hubs, any hints on getting these mothers undone? i\'m doing the drivers side and a 2 foot bar braced against a crowbar couldn\'t open it! are they reverse threaded by any chance?
Still in despereate need of the physical presence of any experts out there!! Please I will pay good money for the help!!
Have you de-coupled the air-con? If not, remember to get a specialist in to do that, as it\'s illegal to vent it to atmosphere. Doesn\'t cost much - i know, just had it done!
Yeah, a bit concerned about that, can i get someone to visit me?
Lack of any wheels makes my car quite hard to drive. :D
Quotecan i get someone to visit me?
Yeah, i expect so. I managed to get someone to visit me on saturday. Most vehicle air con specialists don\'t have much work on at this time of year, so should be pretty easy to find someone to do that for you.
Gotta give this a bump for the new year, as I still need help, thats right the eengine and drivetrain are still in!
Please please please people i will PAY anyone for their time, travelling costs etc, I reckon a solid day of someone who knows what they are doing would have this sorted and I would be eternally grateful for all help, I just cant do it on my own!!
I must be able to tempt someone with something? a free part? there\'s lots to go round!!
Seriously aside from the engine anyone who helps can have any part from the car that they want, gratis.
pretty please? (do i sound desperate enough yet?)
How about loading it on a trailor and getting it taken to a rotary workshop?
Fish
Would be ideal fish, but probably much more than i can afford to actually do it.
i would need to rent a trailer AND something to pull it, TWICE (once there, once back) then pay for the removal work, gonna run into the hundreds easily, its just too much.
Plus if I give it to a garage they prob wont touch it for weeks due to having much more interesting jobs to do than dismantling a scrap rex, and I doubt they will take payment in spare parts!
If any garage peeps are reading this (carl, 20b boy dragon etc) and would like to tell me how much this might cost to have you remove engine/drivetrain combo i would be interested to know.
